K&N Air Filter for Pilot - Click HERE for Original Thread
Dac
Hello,
So the decision on air filtration was made; K&N.I initially thought on sticking to paper type but since i got one in the bimmer mineaswell treat the Pilot to the same stuff,i would have liked to find one from AIRAID but the don't make one ...yet (i e-mailed the guys:4: ).I know there is the danger of too much garbage entering the engine but i'm sure if it's well oiled it will trap "most" of the gunk.I do have a question to Pilot owners that use this filter;does it help with the fuel economy  ?
Thank you

Some have had great results with the K&N while others have not. One thing though, don't over oil the filter or you will have a fouled up mass air flow sensor. I'd keep the stock air box and stick in an Amsoil filter. It's dual staged so you get better filtering ability and increased airflow. On various Toyota Tacoma boards, the guys there have really stayed away from K&N. Just my 2 cents. :2:

I would not know why i would help with mileage.

Unless you have the throttle nearly full open, the throttle plate is the biggest restriction and the air filter is irrelevant.

I last had a K & N installed on an Acura Integra that I owned many years ago. I specifically remember K & N packaging/advertising stating an expected improvement in fuel economy. Shouldn't anything that they publish on the packaging be expected to be true nowadays? :2:

LOL, sure! :2:

Lets see, could I find a car with such a poorly designed filter system, that a new clean K&N is not better for mileage than the old clogged paper filter, You bet ya!

Would I ever expect an improvement from a normally serviced paper filter to a K&N, No Way!
