Navigation - voice command? - Click HERE for Original Thread
Magical
I know this has been addressed somewhere on the board, sorry can't seem to find it. Does the 2005 EX-L/Navi have voice command? Can't seem to get this to work, there is a speaker but not responding, am I doing something wrong?? Thanks in advance for your input/help.

I think it only has "voice prompts"... NOT "voice command"! :4:

So how does one get the voice prompt to respond???

I thought it had partial voice command? I'll know in a few hours, we're heading to the train station soon to take a flight up to Ohio to pickup our '05! WOOHOO, delivery day!

Not as good as the Accord's or Acuras but at least SOMETHING. I'm sad that Honda didn't integrate the nav system from the accord for '05. But since it DOES have a mic input it makes me wonder if it could possibly accept full commands in the future with software updates...

I don't think the NAVI has anything to do with voice commands. Nothing on the Honda website seems to indicate that it';s voice capabile. They just added it to the odyssey this year. So I think the Pilot will be due for it soon.

I think the reason tehy haven't dont it yet, is that the Pilots Navi has the off road trackign that the accord and Odyssey don't. Might be harder to program in that function.

It has some voice commands - look at your manuals that come with the vehicle. They are limited and kind of "mechanical" but save you from punching it in on the screen. You have to type in the street but can give voice commands for destination type (street number/state/intersection/place name/phone #). I have only had my Pilot (2005 EX-L Navi) for one week but I have found that having the phone number is the best way to find places. In order to find some locations I have had to use the address as the phone number was not found in their database. I think this might be a limitation when looking for private residences...

How do you get the voice commands to work? I've tried a couple times but I think my Pilot is ignoring me, or maybe it's asleep, had a long drive last night... The only place I see mention of the voice commands is in the color flip-card thing but it doesn't mention anything about how to activate them, just says to use them, but I'm not getting any responses...

Can anyone confirm this works on their '05?

That was my original question. HOW do you use the voice command, I too am not getting any response. Can someone on the board who has a FAVORABLE experience with this please provided step by step help ASAP. Thanks!

According to this:

Says I should be able to talk to my Pilot. I think my Pilot, or at least the nav system, is in a coma.. :( I wonder if perhaps it doesn't work in the software that comes with the '05's right now? In fact, I wonder what software these things can run, wonder if Alpine direct software would work, would be interesting to take your Pilot to a dealer and try various DVD's to see what would boot up...

The book seems to be in error. No voice input on my 05 Pilot.

I stand corrected on my earlier post. I too assumed it has some voice interactive commands but after sitting in my Pilot yesterday talking to the dashboard, the only conclusion I came to was that I must have looked like I was nuts. I looked at the Navigation manual and there is no mention of the voice commands. I think the quick help guide must reference another Honda navigation system. The menu screen in that guide is different than the actual screen in the Pilot. I wish it was voice driven as the little screen is a pain to type into if you are driving. I guess you need to put in most of your info while parked or have the passenger do it if you are in traffic.

This is a classic example of miscommunication between the design/engineering division and marketing division!;)

Picked up my Pilot last night 11/29/04 (Redrock pearl, RES) and the dealer specifically told me that the Pilot does NOT have voice commands. The system used in the Pilot dates back to 2001 with Acura TL's, etc.
I guess Honda decided to use the old school system for yet another year.. Which was the main reason I decided against the purchase of the Nav system to begin with. Another reas not to go with it was the CD changer is located under the passenger seat (goofy). The CR-V has a 6 disc changer in the dash as one unit, why not the Pilot?? So, the RES works good for now.

There are some major things coming with the redesign of the Pilot (according to my dealer) in 2006 to include:

Voice activated navigation system.
Single unit 6 - disc CD changer in the dash with NAVI.
The ability to shut down 3 cylinders when cruising like the Odyssey.
Redesigned headlights similar to the Odyssey.
Triple zone climate control (driver, passenger, rear).

Overall, I like the vehicle and plan to keep it for years to come (unless Honda makes god on all of these items for 2006).

aeubank,

Can you check w/ your dealer contact and see if all the items you listed are still slated for the 2006 pilot?

Anyone out there know if Honda will be using the more advanced Navigation Systems (Voice Activated) in the Pilot? HID's would be nice too.
