Our Pilot (which we really enjoy) went in to the dealer for the transmission recall and also to check on the braking quirk we have been experiencing from day 1. To date, we have not had any success in having th dealer help find the answer. I am hoping someone here also has had this problem and found a solution.
Here's the problem:
Truck under braking at around 45 mph on a slight downgrade experiences a "lurch" like the braking system kicks in quickly, over compensating so that everyone jerks.
Help?
Does the lemon law apply? (partially kidding..)

Pay attention to when the "jerking" happens. If you're going down a hill when it happens, it is the GRADE LOGIC system on the transmission that is designed to use engine and transmission braking to help you out.
It does take some getting used to... but after a month, it'll be second nature. |

Thanks for the answers.
It is funny that the dealership never thought of that to let us know. Knowing this, I will try to look at the tach to see for the downshift.
For the most part, it has been somewhat predictable to a point but the explanation should help. :) |

| umm, i do'nt think it's the grade logic guys. i know what he's talking about and it's like a sudden serge as if the electrics of the car was being distributed and then the fan kicks in and there's a serge in power making the brake seem much more powerful without further depressing. if it was grade logic, i would feel it on my CRV too but i do'nt and i highyl doubt Honda would make a grade logic system that would interfere that much with the ride. you literally get jerked forward. i noticed it when driving the pilot. i do'nt think i was on a grade too. but maybe i'm wrong. i do'nt think it's a problem though. just the way the car was set up cause it doesn't happen all the time. a lot of " problems" turns out to be no problems cause that's just the way a machine behaves |

If I read your post right, I would say this is normal. You Pilot is down-shifting to assist with the braking (grade logic as noted above). Both my wife's Pilot, and my Acura CL-S do the same thing. I kind of like it:D

| There IS a TSB about brake shims. Could this contribute to the issue you are seeing? |

The shims just stop a clunk noise when the calipers shift from front to rear, or vice versa. The description of what's occurring in the first post is completely consistent with what I experienced - the transmission "grade logic" kicking in without warning, and if you aren't careful, pulling you out of the seat. Once I experienced it a few times, it became second nature, but it's one "feature" I'm glad I no longer have. |
