headliner damage: should dealer fix? - Click HERE for Original Thread
Reef
I had the dealer include an installed Day/Night compass mirror when I recently bought my 05 pilot.

I picked it up last Suday and just noticed that they damaged the headliner near the driver's side attach point for the sunvisor. Looks like they poked it with a phillips screwdriver or something.

At least I think it was them. Don't they need to remove this area to install the wiring?

At any rate, it seems like a small thing put is makes me mad. Should I take it to the dealer and have them fix it? I think it would take a whole new headliner!?!?!

Thoughts?

The front of the headliner and the plastic around the driver's A-pillar and kick panel are removed to run the wires from the mirror to the fuse box.

Installing a new headliner runs the risk of creating more damage and rattles. I bet they have a leather/vinyl/upholstery repair company that can fix it without removing and replacing the entire headliner.

Good point Jay.

And yes, any reputable dealer should take care of it at absolutely no cost to you. I would be very disappointed if they said something like "what makes you think that was done here," or "are you sure that our tech did that?"

Be prepared though, they may try to say that, but to me it as obvious as can be that the tech did it (mistakenly) while attempting to install the day/night mirror. How else would it get there?

After a year with my Pilot, I noticed that the headliner by the liftgate was not being covered by the weather strip so I took it in and had it replaced under warranty. I have not had any rattles or squeaks resulting from the replacement. I definitely think they did it and should replace it.
