20 - 30 MPH Bounce - Click HERE for Original Thread

Anyone experiencing a bouncing sensation when traveling between 20 - 30 mph? The entire car gently, but noticeably bounces during that speed interval. It doesn't matter if I'm braking or just cruising, its pretty apparent. The only time I don't feel it is when I'm accelerating. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Hhmmm, could be several things. First thing that comes to mind is the road. There is a stretch of I-20 West that is notorious for a rhythmic bounce. I also hit a stretch of bouncy road on my way to work that makes me think the wheels are out of balance but I realized it only occurs there so the problem is local and thus the road.

If that is no it, the description of a gentle bounce does not lead one to suspect the wheels and tires as they tend to give a quicker shaking vibration.

Do you feel the motion more through the steering wheel or the seat? Any indication of left or right or is it the entire vehicle at the same time?

If it occurs everywhere and is not the road, I would take it to either the dealer or your local tire shop and let them see if the wheels or axles etc or out of balance. If they balance the wheels on the vehicle, it will test the entire assembly which may be a clue.

Sorry if this isn't much help, hope it gets you started.

Let us know what the results are.

Unfortunately this happens no matter what road I'm on - I've already eliminated this possibility.

I feel the bouncing in the seat not through the steering wheel.

I've got a service appointment later this week - perhaps balancing of the tires will work. Thanks for your help.

Does the ride smooth out when you get over 30 mph?
It's not the transmission shifting is it?
raining79
Yes, the ride definitely smooths out after 30 mph. I've cruised down a local street, with my foot off the gas at 25 mph, and the car will gently bounce the entire way. So unless its shifting up and down throughout, I doubt its the transmission. I'll try cruise control next to see if that's it - although I'm not sure if cruise control will allow 25 mph.

Hey, I'm experiencing a Burning sensation when.. . oh I'm sorry, wrong thread...

:p

OK, the fact you feel it primarily through the seat and not the steering wheel points to the fact it is not something in the front end like alignment, tie rod etc.

Am wondering if the rear axle could be out of balance? Not sure it can happen but something is causing it it sounds like the mid to rear part of the vehicle.

Maybe bad rear shocks?

Know I am guessing but maybe we can at least eliminate some things.

Thanks for the info Sportymonk. My service appointment is tomorrow - hopefully they will have a solution. I'll let everyone know once I get the Pilot back.

Ok what's the word? What did they say?
raining79
They balanced the tires and resurfaced the rotors. I was a little worried when the service guy said, "We might be chasing this for a little while", but so far so good. Hopefully it'll hold up. Thanks again for the help.
