Yikes. Better pay attention if the "check airbag" indicator light comes on.

It seems it would have been better for the dealership to disconnect the side airbag on the seat with the fault. The airbag probably wasn't working anyway.

I'm guessing it had more to do with the servce work than then airbag system.

I.E. When they were under the seat the got the electric seat wiring or seat heater wiring caught in the track.

The SRS stuff is all low power sensors.

Does the MDX have seat heaters?

How about a power seat on the passenger side?

One of the posts on the MDX side mentioned a Pilot fire - do we have a thread for that here? I do recall the CR-V fires because of the oil filter leak, but not a Pilot fire...

I agree with N Jay.... Honda need to look into this soon

IIRC one member reported an interior fire at the driver's seat. I do not recall if there were any picutres though.

Oh, that's right. Here's the thread. The driver thought it was the seat motors, but there was lots of discussion about seat heaters or a careless cigarette being the cause. I don't think the other owner had seat heaters or smoked though.

It is unfortunate, but isn't unique to Acura(both the problem, and follow up liability dispute).

I've had a couple other friends have their cars burn up due to heated seat malfunctions(one Volvo comes to mind), and other mysteries.

It's a tragedy for sure though, and I hope it all works out to at least a "break even" for the owner.

As an aside, the attached photo seems to clearly show a hole/dent in the hood of the MDX?? What is with that if this was an interior, non-crash related fire?

Kind of a shot in the dark, but the fire department may have needed to open the hood for whatever reason. If the interior was on fire, they couldn't access the release and had to instead pry it open like a sardine can.

That was my initial theory as well, although it is an odd hole/dent ... ah well, no big deal :8:
