I had some gold pin stripes (standard Honda style) put on my Firepepper red Accord but I'm not sure about the Pilot.
What do you all think? |

| waynerd |
| I tested mine with a couple of scraps of silver and gold. Gold looks nice, and I decided on a single, fairly thick stripe.....that I'll eventually get put on  |

I have a red rock pearl '04, but........... :needpics:
I would like to see what it looks like striped, they do need something on the sides.:4: |

| Me too - let's see what yours looks like. I've been debating on adding a tan pinstripe. |

| How easy is it to apply yourself and where do you get the pinstriping? Also, is there any problems when washing or waxing? |

From the ones I've seen, a bit more tedious than your door edge guards, and if you don't get it lined up/stuck properly, washing and waxing is a problem. I peeled the crap off my '98 Accord; the ends were pulling up within a few days of getting it home from the dealer. |

I personally would not waste the time and money on taped pinstripes. They will always look like "just tape" and they will start to curl. You will also have wax/polish build up along the edges.
Just my $.02 |

Agreed. For something really unique, look into having the pinstriping painted on. This also allows you to use more than one color. A wide contrasting stripe (maybe gold or tan) accented by a subtle thin stripe.
I've had taped pinstripes on a few vehicles, more popular here back in the 80's I guess, the tape did hold up but the ends (starting point, indside the doors) became a problem. Quick fix is clear nail polish.
Washing was not a problem but waxing was a pain. If you get wax over the pinstripe and then remove it, there would be a noticable build up left along the edge. |

Same here - taped stripes back in the (gasp) 80's and 70's. I just had my RidgeLine stripped this last week. The guy who did it has been doing it for over 25 years. I went with two colors - each of which was a slightly lighter shade of the interior colors. Both look quite nice on the white exterior (IMHO).

The guy charged me $150. I'm going to have the Crusier done next week and it will probably be about the same.
 |

That looks very nice! Just enough to have some detail to it without being over the top. That's something you can't duplicate with taped stripes and $150 seems like a decent price.
So what else have you got planned for your new ride? |
|
|
| cwa107 |
I love the pinstripes, he did a really great job. I've got to see if anyone does it around here.
BTW, any plans for the grille? IMHO, that's the only shortcoming of the styling on the Ridgeline. |

Thanks - we thought it was a "fair" price.
My towing package will be here Wednesday and I plan to install it over the weekend. Then all that is left is some sort of a tonneau cover - probably a roll-top type.

Thanks! Thought about the grill - still not sure as I have only seen pictures. The stock one kinda grows on you.

Since we managed to hijack this thread (although not too bad really, only a slight drift!), what was your decision?
Are you getting pinstriping for your Redrock Pilot? |
|
|
| wstromer |
I don't think you have hijacked this thread at all. This has been good information.
I like the Ridgeline pics - they show that I could go a little further than the standard Honda stripes and look not just tasteful but downright sharp.
I'm going to get the stripes and have them add something more than the usual lines. I'll probably have them do a gold or khaki color to match the interior camel color leather. I'll post some pics as soon as it's done. |

I think a professional strip job in gold or gold leaf would look fantastic on Redrock, especially if you have the tan interior.
Poswt some pics whent you get 'em. |

Definitely gold vs tan on the Redrock.
The only problem I've had with painted pinstripes was on the wife's '90 Acura Integra. They looked VERY sharp, but after about 10 years, they started to "thin"out a bit...probably from too many carwashes and too much waxing. |
|
|
| wstromer |
I had a '90 Integra. Great little car. Sold it after 10 years & 114k miles. The guy that bought it pretty much had a check written before he drove it.
It had pin stripes when new but I removed them after a few years when some started coming off. I had found out that they were tape and likely dealer applied. |

10 Years?!?! Man, don't worry about things that far down the road!! Enjoy your vehicle for today.
Even taped stripes will fade over time.

WOW! Identical twins! Her's had the sunroof visor, though. We traded it after 12 years and almost 130k. My dad sold his Honda CRX and bought one just like it too. His had tape stripes....and 160K when we sold it.
That Melborne Blue was a great color.....kinda hoped Steel Blue would have been that color, 'cause it might have been worth a trade-up. |

It was very practical because of the hatchback and sometimes refer to it as the best pickup truck I have ever owned.
A couple years ago a friend of mine was going to donate an '89 Integra to one of those charity organization for a tax break. Instead, I ended up getting it from him "real cheap". I fixed it up, drove it for a while and then sold it and made a little money. It also was a sweet little car although not quite as fun as my 90 model since it was an automatic. I thought the popu up lights were cool on that generation of car.
Those CRX models were damned cute, lots of fun, and get great mileage. I'd love to have one but cold never talk the spouse into it. |
