Has anyone ever built their own Brick BBQ Grill? - Click HERE for Original Thread
kanostic
Hey everyone,

This is my first thread here and if I have created this in the wrong area my apologies.

My wife and I just purchased our first home and I was considering on building my own Brick BBQ Pit. I was wondering if anyone here has either; built one before, knows of any good sites or books on this, or has any good pointers.

I have done some research on line and haven't really come up with anything that explained it well, and their is hardly any books on this. Oh yeah before anyone asks, I want it to be a Charcoal/Wood burning grill and nothing to fancy.

Thanks in advance.

Hello kanostic and welcome! Yes, it's probably a thread to be moved by the mods to a more appropriate area, but that's okay. I'm sure you'll get plenty of help along the way.

Never built a BBQ pit before just saw it done on TV. If I was you the first thing I would do is keep Lucy & Ethel away from it until the cement dries! :D :jester:

http://bbq.about.com/od/plansforsmokers/This site should answer most of your questions. I had a brick bbq pit built 12 years ago. One important item line the pit and back area with a good heat proof red brick, will help retain and radiate heat into the grill area. You can find this at any good brick yard (ACME Brick) is the brand I used. Are you a brick mason, one who lays brick? If not find a brick layer work out a price for labor only and then buy the brick yourself. I saved several hundred dollars doing it this way. I paid a brick mason, $200.00 showed him the plans( He laid all the brick in less than 8 hours). Then bought the brick myself after he told me how many I needed for the job. The brick company will deliver the brick for free to the work site. The entire job cost $450.00. I just bought 1500 brick for another job that cost $505.50.
Good Luck and happy grilling.

Heh I knew I had posted it in the wrong area, thanks for looking out and moving it to the right spot.

Hey thanks rockman19762001 for all you info on this. I am no Brick Mason at all and I was planning on hiring someone to lay the brick. Good tip on laying heat proof brick in the back area didn't think of that one. :)

I checked out that site looks good so far, now I have to think of a good design for this bad boy. I appreciate all your help and anyone else who replies.

:D
