Hey Rx5,
I log in ok but AcuraMdx still won't let me post. Can you cut and paste this over there? Thanks!
_______________
Hey Guys,
Coming over to the dark side from HondaPilot.org. I'm interested in jumping on the wagon!
Does the same mirror fit all three vehicles?
http://www.muthco.com./products/kits/220-0183.htm
My mirrors aren't heated. I'm assuming the 199 price is off the 269 heated kit. Would I be able to purchase the non-heated kit for 149 (219-70)? (And like Rx5, I'm also curious if we can get the GB discount AND free shipping...)
For those of you who made the switch, have you noticed any decrease in optical "performance" or any other drawbacks?
Thanks! |

| Hey Wilson, you should have ordered the heated mirrors with the heater kit. I know you live in So Cal, but they still come in handy. And, they're another gadget! Haven't communicated with you in a while but hope all is well. Also, the prototype screen protector is working well. You should mention their availability again on our site if you are still making them. BTW, got my heated signal mirrors yesterday but will have to wait till Father's day to "receive" them. I'll probably install them that next week. |

I was contemplating getting the heated set and also the brake light one, but just went with the plain old signal mirror.
As for the screen protector for the navi, I don't have access to the material anymore. |

| Save your money. Don't get the multi function module. I had one on my CRV. The only good thing it does is turn on the mirrors if you open the doors. The strobing brake lights are more irratating than anything else and I didn't hook them up. |

Hey Wilson & Don, don't forget to take some pictures of the installation.
I finally got my mirrors the other day. Last night, I only had enough time to install them and run the wiring near where they need to be spliced in. Unfortunately, my camera battery died during the procedure and, thanks to my kids, I have no idea where the spare battery, battery charger, or AC adapter for my camera are presently located.
I'm hoping to finish wiring them in (and post a few pictures) tomorrow morning (by the end of Saturday for sure)...
ADDED:
Oh, a couple quick notes in the meantime:
1. I found it easier to adjust both the mirrors fully down (as if you wanted to look at the ground) using the electronic switches in the driver's door and then pulling the mirror "inserts" up and out with my fingers (thumbs covering the tops, 8 fingers pulling from underneath) while the mirror housings are still attached to the door.
2. There are two clips that hold the black plastic triangle molding (opposite of the mirror housing) to the inside of the door. They are vertically oriented and are situated closer to the top than the bottom. I think it would be better to gently pull from the top and bottom instead of left and right. EDITED TO ADD: PROCEED WITH CAUTION HERE! THE CLIPS ARE FRAGILE. DO WHAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU. ADDED: MALMON ADVISED THAT PULLING FROM THE BOTTOM BROKE A CLIP BUT PULLING FROM THE TOP WORKED FINE!
3. There are three bolts that hold the mirror housing in place. The one I almost missed is located near the very front of the door, "outside" the door seal.
4. When running the wires down through the door, I found it easier to remove the door speaker and housing and put my hand into the opening to guide the ends of the wires to the grommet hole (having already "unhooked" the rubber grommet from the door).
5. In order to run the wires through the rubber boot, I first unhooked both ends. Then I took a length of straightened coat hanger wire and electrical taped (one loop of tape) the wiring to the coat hanger end so that wiring extended past the tip of the coat hanger by 1/2" or so. Then I pushed it up into the rubber boot from the bottom and manipulated the top so the ends of the wires were exposed. Then I firmly grabbed the wires with a pair of needlenose pliers and pulled the coat hanger wire back out.
6. It's easier to feed the wires through on the passenger side after you've lowered the glove box out of the way.
7. The passenger side Muth mirror installed no problem. I ran into a glitch on the Driver's side, however, the mirror motor actuator prevented the LED module from seating properly (can't get the mirror to hook into the actuator). The part is pictured on page four of the PDF file that Steve L provided the link to (top middle picture). On that picture, "traveling" counter clockwise from 6 o'clock, the right hand side of the plastic part shows a portion that juts out from the nice circular edge (right about 3:30). That whole section from about 2:30 to 3:30 needs to be trimmed off. BTW, on the driver's side, that would be 8:30 to 9:30). I have the 2003 model so YMMV... |

| Thanks for posting these helpful installation tips. I'm comtemplating changing the door speakers and adding dynamat since I have to take the door panel off anyway. |

Ok, just got finished with the wiring and everything seems to be working.
Again, sorry I have no pictures! Remember, this is for a 2003; if you have another year, YMMV. AND, always double check my info by Testing BEFORE you do anything irreversible! :)
Passenger side:
Remove the lower kick panel - locate the black plastic "retaining clip" (looks like a button with 3 holes) on the right side of the carpeted floorboard (sloped portion) and remove it [the bolt underneath looks like it's threaded so you might be able to unscrew it - I simply pried it straight up] - unhook the interior grey plastic door sill cover at the front (just pull straight up) - THEN remove the kick panel (might have to wiggle it).
After you remove the panel, you'll see a 10mm nut. I used that for ground.
Locate an appropriate wire to tap into for positive. Here's the one I used (you might be able to locate a "better" one) - find the blue socket harness (it is horizontally oriented and located at the bottom right of the wiring compartment) - the top right wire should be Green with a Yellow Stripe and Silver Bands - that's the one that worked for me. This one is a pain because you need to clear some room to clip into the wire - you need to pull it away from the white plastic "guide" that it's electrically taped to and expose more of the wire by untaping the insulation. You'll see... lol
Driver's side:
Easier on this side - you don't need to remove any plastic panels (found that out After the fact).
Looking at the group of wiring harnesses/sockets, find the upper middle green socket (vertically oriented). There are two columns of wires in this socket. The one I used for positive is the third wire down on the left side (IIRC should be Green with a White Stripe and Silver Bands). This one is MUCH easier to tap into.
For ground, you can pretty much take your pick (I used one of the 12mm nuts in the area behind the brake pedal).
Hope that helps. I figure you should have two choices of positive per side (front and rear signals). I got tired of holding my flashlight in my mouth (no bite holder) so, once I found one that worked, I didn't look around for another choice.
BTW, are you guys comfortable with removing the door panels? |

| Done. Thanks again to Samuel2003. His tips make it easy since I have a 2003 Pilot too. I'll post DIY install pictures later. |

| Did you members get the newer version of the mirror? The older ones had the mounting tabs on the mirror itself. The newer versions use the snap on mount from the OEM mirror. It requires you snap the original mount off the OEM mirror and snap in place on the signal mirror. It makes for a better fit and was easier to snap on than the older version. Have to send the driver's side back because of distortion in the mirror itself. Should get the replacement this week. |
|
|
| wwong |
| Looks like I got the old version. Probably why they were on sale. |
|
|
| dragoncoach |
| Yea, I think you may be right. They told me they were going to switch all the mirrors to the new mounts. Oh well, as long as the mirrors don't fall off! |
|
|
| malmon |
| Is the newer version a more secure fit or just an easier install? |
|
|

dragoncoach, I can't picture what you're saying. Do you have pictures or can you point out parts in the installation instructions that Steve Luman linked?
I'm thinking that ours Are the newer ones because they were pretty simple to replace/install.
If anyone is looking at buying, maybe they can contact Chris at Muth Co and find out for sure...

I just wanted to thank everyone for their tremendous help in this install. I have installed the mirooros and turn signal power, and will finish with the heated option harness tomorrow. Went exactly as followed by Ww and Samuel. The only thing was if you take off the driver door panel completely, you have to reprogram the power window switch. Also there is a second longer screw behind the door handle as described in Ww post.
Thanks everyone! |

The old versions didn't require taking any parts off the original mirrors. The newer versions require you remove the plastic part which snaps into the motor assembly. The proceedure is quite simple. Just push down on the mount toward the bottom of the glass and it will snap off. You next reinstall the piece onto the signal mirror by snapping it into place. Make your connections and snap the new signal mirrors into place. Using the old mount seems to give me a more secure "snap" sound than when using the signal mirrors with the mount already attached. The only thing is you will have to slightly modify a plastic piece which interferes with the LED pod. Took about 5 minutes per mirror to modify. |

| My daughter has the digital camera and I'm really lazy about posting pix. However, when you take the mounting bracket off the OEM mirror, it has a semi-eliptical circle of black plastic sticking out about 1 inch. If you hold the bracket up to the signal mirror, it's obvious where the bracket will interfere with the signal mirror LED assembly if you attempt to snap it in. The cut is pretty easy with a hacksaw or dremel tool. The cut doesn't have to be prefect, but better to cut too little and cut a little more than cut too much. |
