| Hello all, getting my Pilot back this afternoon (Saturday). They have had it all day Friday to replace my transmission at 43K miles. Since around 30K, I have been taking it in for a hesitation and jerking at around 40 MPH when you give it gas to go up a small rise. I have had 3 EGR valve replacements. :3: Now they think the lock-up torque converter is failing in the transmission. They are doing quite a few on the related Odyssey engine and are now seeing the problem on Pilots and Acuras. They indicated it may be related to the 2nd Gear band-aid fix. The replacement takes 7 hours and this morning they are doing a front end alignment since they have to take it apart to do the replacement. I will keep you all posted on whether this fixes it. I am happy Honda is covering the cost of this $4500 repair. :D Has anyone else had their tranmission fail yet? |

A year and a half ago all this site was talking about were the transmission failures.
While the band aid will work on some transmissions, others perhaps are too far gone when installed and subsequently fail |

Compared to the other Honda/Acura models, the Pilot seem to be the least affected by tranny failures. |

Does anyone have real numbers???
Sorry to hear about your troubles, Autobahn! At the very least, it does sound as if they're trying to take care of you. |

Since mine is an original 2003 model (from June 2002), I bet it is a matter of time for others in the 2003 production run. The other comment they made is that it seems to happen to those who had a lot of miles (i.e. 30K+) before the band-aid was applied. |

A year and 1/2 ago everyone was talking about the recall.
I don't remember hearing about a single transmission failure related to teh recall, and I think there have been very few reported on here at all.
I think there where 2 people with transmission failures very early on. |

There are a ton of 2001/2002 MDX tranny failures but very few 2003/up. The MDX tranny was redesigned in 2003, so I would guess that the improvements got incorporated into the Pilots also. I really haven't seen very many (if any) Pilot tranny failures. |

Guess I got the MDX Tranny since I was so early in the production. Picking it up in 3 hours and hopefully all is fixed. |

I think the 2003 and 2004 Pilot transmissions were the same as the 2001-2002 MDX transmission. There were adaptations midyear to the 2004 tranny WRT to the oil flow fix and to the 2005 Pilot transmission WRT to some gearing but I don't think these changes were related to the 2004 MDX's "compact" transmission. Informal monitoring of the MDX forum doesn't necessarily confirm that the MDX's 2004 compact tranny "upgrade" has resulted in fewer problems. Though one can hope ... I've always been surprised at the lack of available real data on these questions. It would also be interesting to know about the effect of MDX and Pilot model year HP upgrades on the rate of tranny failure. |

Yes. It's surprising that Honda decided to put the problem-proned transmission in the then new Pilot. (Too many upset 01-02 MDX owners). |

| Got the new tranny and so far so good. I need to do some "testing" at 40 MPH where I typically see the problem. It feels much better at highway speeds. I noticed at slower speeds that it has a different sound than the old tranny. |
