If you want an 06 at a discount, tell them no thanks and wait 3-6 months
If you want a discount buy an 05.
This kind of pricing is is not uncommon initially when a product is new |

| We got $600 off + $1500 over highest bid on our trade. We could have bought a similar '05 for $5000 less but it doesn't have the head curtain airbags and no 2wd version. |

| Congrats on your purchase. As long as you are satisfied, that's all that matters. Are you the first 2006 owner here? :) |

$5k price difference between '05 AWD and '06 2WD? Wow! |

I just put a deposit on an 06 EX-L 4wd with Navigation Steel Metallic Blue - waiting on it to come in.
After much negotiation all I could get was 1500 off MSRP. I have been waiting since last December to purchase an 06 and just couldn't wait any longer. My dealer offered me 500 more off than anyone else and they have over 16 05's on the lot!!!
I could have waited and gotten a better discount but I just couldn't stand it anymore.

| EXL Nav $35,245.00 - 1,500 + 550 (dest) = 34295 seems a little bit too high. You can get MDX 05 for 38,000 (I did). And I tell you, there is a lot difference between the two cars (you can't tell from specs), even though Pilot has space and some utility advantage. BUT quality from MDX is just way better. I've checked Pilot 06 and no comparison. |

I don't disagree my price is on the high side. But for some reason at this time North Tx. dealers aren't coming down much off the prices.
That was the best offer out of 4.

It's the same car, Sparky. Some engine tuning, fake wood and some "luxury" features differentiate the lines. But the quality is the same. |

In Japan they dont have Acura, they are all Honda. Its not Acura NSX its Honda NSX and I dont think they skimp on quality between the two. FYI |
|
|
| hungphan2 |
| I don't think the quality is the same. Make direct comparision between the seats, the fabric, the carpet, audio quality, tires, glass... And the transmission is also not the same. There are so many little things that add up to a different driving experience. I used to drive 04 EXL Pilot. Once you drive an MDX, you don't want to go back, in my opinion. |
|
|
| hungphan2 |
Pilot 05: customer complains:14, TSB: 39
MDX 05: customer complains:1, TSB:13.
Even though MDX has more electronic gadgets. If the two are similar, why are there so much discrepencies? As I say before, if you plan to spend too much on a Pilot, you might want to consider MDX, that you will be happy for years to come. Not to mention that Acura is a luxury name -:). |

I check into the MDX but for the same package it was well over 8k more for the features.
I am curious and could really use the advice- what would be a fair price to negotiate for an 06 this early ?

Before I saw the real Amazon green and the interior, I choice sage brush.
After I test drive the amazon green ( they got only one 06 EX on that time),
I love it. then change my mind. EX olive cloth seat actually look like saddle, that is OK for me. |

Would a 1,000 over invoice be a good price at this point?
I have two offers for an 06 ExL with Navigation 4wd Steel Blue Metallic
one is 33.257.36 - includes the 550 dest. but not TTL
second offer is 33,007 but dealer is acting funny about whether this includes 550. I don't trust this dealer for some reason.
I did put down a 500 deposit on one dealer for a price quote of 34,295. Might be worth the try to get my deposit check back and go with 1,000 over invoice.
Any suggestions? Invoice for exl navi is 31,707.36 |

Check carsdirect.com. In my area, carsdirect has them for $400 over invoice, so the salesperson would have to beat that. :4: |

I'm not sure what the cloth looks like, but the olive leather looks very much like a mix of saddle and the grey. It's warmer than the grey, but not as brown as the saddle. It's a great interior color IMHO. One weird thing I noticed about the olive interior is the steering wheel matches the lower (i.e. lighter colored) panels as opposed to the upper dash & leather inserts on the door which are darker. The grey interior is opposite of this and has a darker steering wheel that matches the upper dash/door panel inserts. |

If it's anything like the amazon green ridgeline interior, then it's something like this....
I actually expected to hate it, but it was VERY tastefully done, very soft muted hues.
So does this compare at all to the Amazon Green Pilot? Maybe? |

Congrats! Not bad, considering that it's a brand new model and they're still getting a feel for demand. 6 months from now will be a different story.

Could very well be. Remember, the '06 has only been in production for a few months and hundreds of Honda dealers are waiting on inventory. It does take the factories a little while to catch up, especially while demand is high on a new model.

Instead of using a traditional headlamp - as in the '03-05, the '06 uses a projector-style headlight. The color of the light should be a little whiter and the beam is a bit more focused.
4WD and AWD are marketing terms - they are basically the same thing, there is no specific definition for either. Honda says the Pilot has 4WD. |

| Some savings can also be made if you purchase the Pilot from a Honda dealer outside the Bay Area where the sales tax is lower than 8.75%. Some places where BART is not accessible like Livermore, or Antioch which is just approximately 34 miles away from San Francisco has a sales tax of only 8.25%. Unless of course this local tax ruling has been repealed. Just check it out.....FWIW. :) |
|
|
| deparson |
Well,
MSRP (with dest): 31,295
INVOICE (with dest): 28,214
So, I would say that for a new model year Honda a price of ~500 over invoice is not bad at all assuming your trade in is valued correctly.

Isn't it the car sales tax in California is calculated base on where the owner resides not where he/she buy the car from? |
|

| dentate |
| There should be no difference in build quality between the Acura MDX and the Honda Pilot since they both go down the very same assembly line in Alliston, Ontario. Many US Pilots originate from a south eastern plant. I have owned both and I find the Pilot seats vastly superior in comfort to the MDX. (notice i did not say appearance). I will likely replace vehicle 2 (Caddy STS) with a another Pilot. |

Thats very true!
But some dealers do split the tax.
I won't get into specifics but you'll be amazed how they can circumvent the tax laws just to get your business. :) |
