Just for my own edification - can you pop just the sunglasses holder out, and punch that in to the original housing?
Nope! When I got the conversation mirror from Tim, it was one of the options I was exploring. |

| I ordered a Conversation Mirror before going thriugh all of the replies and discovered that it will not fit my 06 Pilot. My 06 Pilot has the one piece Map Light like the older models. Some one wrote that all 06 Pilots have the Conversation Mirror feature, this is incorrect. It sure looked like a simple change out. Oh well maybe I will get it in my next Pilot, somewhere around 2010 or later. |

Wow, sorry to hear that and I am surprised. I assumed 06 Pilots had the ambient light standard based upon discussions in this thread. |

To be 101% honest, I have an '06 with the conversation mirror. My thoughts after having it for just over a month are: That it's overrated due to the fact that I don't find it positioned properly for me and it isn't adjustable as well as the 2nd and 3rd row passengers are so far away in the mirror that it isn't really even possible to see the exact facial expressions and who exactly is talking by looking in the mirror. Plus I find it a nuisence to use the sunglasses holder and mirror. I'm always flipping it and not getting what I want when is aggivating IMHO!!! |

I think at least it is much better than the conversation mirror in my 04 Sienna. The conversation mirror in 04 Sienna is much smaller and almost useless. It is true the conversation mirror in Pilot is still not big enough to monitor who is talking(btw, do you really need to SEE who is talking?;) ), but I am sure I can capture who is DOING what. :2: |

With three small ones, it's nice to be able to see who:twak:, :25:, :headslap:, :11: , :30: who:21: :21: :21: . I know the priority is to drive but the odd time when you go to look in the mirror, it's nice not to have to put on a part of bifocals or brinoculars!!! |

I've read the entire thread and am somewhat confused. Can someone advise me if the mirror will fit in my 2006 Pilot LX?
I have also seen a reference that all 2006 Pilot's come with the conversation mirror. Not true as mine doesn't have it.
Thanks.

| Yes, it will fit because it is a part for the '06 originally. Do you have the LX or an EX? |

If you're talking about the previous post, it says in the post it's an LX. But will it fit an LX? I seem to recall that there was a bracket issue that prevented putting the part in some models. I'm just not certain if that was an '05 or the '06 LX.
EDIT: about 27 posts up, I found this post by RickSE.
Conversation Mirror for 2006 LX
I figured that for $35, I could add a nice accessory to my 2006 LX - the Conversation Mirror. Unfortunately, that same bracket causing the problems in the older Pilots continues in the 2006 LX. The mirror assembly is too deep to fit into the space occupied by the OEM assembly. Back to the store it goes... |

Thanks for the clarification. The group saved me the trouble of buying and returning it.
I think that I saw a notation on the Honda-Acura World site that the part was standard for all '06's. Guess that it incorrect.
Again thanks.

| The conversation mirror will NOT fit in a 2006 LX. I tried. My guess was that it only will fit in an EX with a sun/moon roof as the headliner is lower. |

Ok all, I just need to call out that Tim @ Hondacuraworld is a pretty dam cool guy and worked hard for me.
Here's what I've concluded in regards to figuring out the "Fern" issue:
If you have a Fern interior, do NOT order up a mirror for "fern" it's Olive.
The 06 Grey part is just a shade off on the plastic bits, but I have to tell you, you can't tell when it's installed, even with the homelink module in the middle of the surround. If you look for the mismatch you'll see it, but it's so close I can't tell, there's no direct light on it etc. And I'm an anal Mother F'er, so if I say it's good, it's good! ;-)
So, if you have the 05 "Fern" and want the mirror, order it as "grey" and it'll be good to go. |

Has anyone tried to install one of these in an 06 Ex?? |

Hey Jengel-
The option I went with was to have the part professionally vinyl dyed to match. That cost me about 35$, and its a perfect match.
A very cool upgrade if you have the kids, I think.

| Looks like the same mirror as in my 05 Odyssey. I don't use it. It's kind of hard to see. It distorts like a fun house mirror, and it's hard to see in back. |

Do you think it is worse than not looking or turning your hear? :2: |

Probably worse than not looking. I find when I look at it, I have to stare to see because of the distortion. |

Since my '05 Fern interior does not exist in the '06s, I'm just waiting for someone to try to put the '05 Fern-colored Odyssey mirror into a '05 Fern Pilot. Pretty sure it will fit, just not sure about the color matching.
Please someone try this!! |

I've heard that the '06 grey is a real close match to the '05 fern. |

Hi gang,
New member here. I just bought a 2005 SBP EX-L RES (someone should post an acronym glossary!). The car came with one dealer-installed option: roof rack crossbars. I'm going to try to resist the temptation to spend a fortune on accessories, but so far I've ordered rear mud guards, touch-up paint, a second console cupholder assembly, and a grey 2006 sunglasses holder with conversation mirror. Since the SBP exterior comes with Fern interior, I am hoping that the grey conversation mirror matches my interior well. I appreciate knowing that jengel451 is "anal"; his endorsement helped me decide to go ahead with the grey conv. mirror. And as for being anal... I can relate. :)
I have already been searching through his forum for pointers, and just want to extend my thanks for all the helpful posts.
Next on my list will be the chrome grill trim (as in Ratso's or Karn Automotive's)... and of course, Wilson's console pads.
I look forward to many years of happy Piloting. Cheers!

For those who may stumble upon this thread, let me assure you that while there is a teency tiny difference between the 2003-2005 Fern and the 2006 Grey color (for the plastic trim), the difference is almost impossible to see in normal lighting. Even in direct lighting (flashlight or similar), most folks wouldn't notice the difference unless they were looking for it. I'm one of the most anal-retentive people you'll ever meet, and I'm very pleased with the color match.
One other item worth mentioning: Someone earlier in this thread mentioned that their 2006 conv. mirror wouldn't "drop down" easily or at all. Mine had that problem, too, initially, but I ended up swapping the latching pin (little black crank arm) from the old sunglasses holder to the new sunglasses holder / conv. mirror assembly, and now it's working just fine. It seems the new latching pin fits very tightly in the housing, but it really NEEDS to be loose to work right, since it is gravity-assisted. (Prijo mentioned this on page 4 of this thread.) I'll post a picture of the piece in question, if I can figure out how.
Finally, this was an extremely easy installation, which took me less than 15 minutes, and I was being very careful. Follow the instructions found on page 3 of this thread (look for post from RcRaiders) and here to remove the map light lenses and you'll be good to go. |

Well, for starters, just use the "quote" button at the bottom right of any post to quote that entire post. To boldface any text, just hit the "B" button (on the "vB Code" line) when you're editing your post. As for learning how to be a more effective smarta**, I charge $20 an hour for lessons.

P.S. I still owe this thread a picture of the latching pin. I'll get right on that.... |
