UPDATE!!! Tim at HAW said that due to the huge interest of this item, he will change this "group buy", and just post the item for same on the HAW website tomorrow, 10/13/05. So we aren't limited to just 10 participants, and you can simply purchase the item at your leisure.
NOTE: THIS CONVERSION WILL ONLY WORK ON '05 EX-L PILOTS!! IT WILL NOT WORK ON '03-'04 PILOTS, OR '05 LX or EX PILOTS.
Make sure to read through this thread to find out if it will fit your Pilot. If you have the single piece map light cover, it will not fit. If you have the seperate map light covers, it will fit. Check out the diagram on page 2, to compare yours.

I talked to Tim at Hondaacuraworld today, and he agreed to do a group buy for the 2006 conversation mirror. This is a direct replacement for the sunglass holder/surround, and gives you a convex mirror that allows you to see the kids in the back.
We have already had one member, RcRaiders, install the mirror, and he said that it was a very easy install. I have reposted his post in this thread.
Since this is a new item, and there might not be a lot of stock of this part yet, Tim would like to limit the group buy to 10 people. The price for the part will be $35.00.
Please post if you are interested, and after we get 10, we can set it up with Tim. He mentioned that if there is enough interest, he might eventually put this up as a listed part on the website.

I thought I would repost this info here, just everyone understands. Also, the surround comes in three different colors. Here are the part numbers for each:
Gray - 83250-SHJ-A02ZB
Saddle - 83250-SHJ-A02ZE
Fern - 83250-SHJ-A02ZF
It will work on all Pilots with the seperated map lights (see diagram). I have circled the console from the '03-'05 parts diagram, which matches the new conversation mirror. I believe that this is the one that comes with all EX models, but I could be mistaken on this (might only be EX-L, or only 2005s).
Simply take a look at the diagram below to see which overhead you have. If it is the one circled, you should be good to go.
Please note, however, that I am no expert in Honda parts, and I am basing my opinion solely on parts diagram comparisons. You will have to make the final call. |

| Ed I am confused. My surround looks like the one you did not circle. The clear lens for my maps lights is one solid piece, not two. I do have the homelink controller but the lens is only one piece. Does this mean it won't fit? I have a 2004 EX-RES if that helps. |

Perhaps Tim can confirm if it will work with the 03. From the picture that Pilotmom posted, it looks like the light/homelink should fit in that space. Not sure if the wiring will fit with that extra green light that the newer Pilots have.

The only way we're going to find out is if somebody tries it, unfortunately. Honda doesn't tell us what will and won't fit if it didn't come on the vehicle.....

Unfortunately, it does not look like it will fit the models with the single lens light. I just pulled mine down and the homelink and lights are all part of the frame. If you can make it work, it would require a bit of cutting and gluing to move the homelink and lights to the new frame.

You can see the map lights and the home-link are part of the conversation mirror or the sunglasses holder. This is only a picture study. 03-04 part number for the assembly are different than 04-05 part number.
On 03-04 Roof consule assemlby are one piece. The map lights & home links are part of the holder assembly.
On 04-05 Roff consule assembly are three pieces. The map light assembly, the base module, the console roof assembly....
I am sorry to say this that the conversation mirror will not work for the 03-04 roof console assembly. I might be wrong. but I did my analysis and tonite I will dismantle the roof console on my 03 PILOT to see if the conversation mirror will work for 03-04...

Thanks to everyone involved for making this happen. I would like to order one from Tim. My understanding is that since I have a 2005 SBP with fern interior, I should order the Fern color. Correct?
My question is: Since this item first appeared on the 2005 Ody, and now on the 2006 Pilot and since the 05 Ody and 06 Pilot do not have fern as an option for interior color (replaced by Olive) why is there even a Fern part Number available? Is there another Honda/Acura that has this mirror with a Fern interior? |

Since I have an '04, this might be a moot point, but can you see the entire back seat with the conversation mirror? With bundle of joy #2 on the way, I'll definitely need more than my ToysR Us clip-on mirror to monitor the coming arguments in the back seat.
I remember testing a Ford Freestar :rolleyes: with the conversation mirror and it had a pretty good view of the back of the entire van. |

I have an '05 Pilot EX-L and just ordered the FERN mirror from Tim. We'll see if it is the "same" FERN color as the one I'm taking out. Once I get it (I understand Tim won't receive his stock until Tue/Wed based on a previous post, then some time to process my order and get it shipped, might be a couple of weeks, assuming I get one of his 3 original order of FERN mirrors... :), hint, hint, hint....)
I'll compare color, fit, finish, hopefully have some pics to go with it. It looks like a 2 screw operation to replace, but I'll let you know....

Update... DIY basic R&R for the 2006 conversation mirror with separated map lights... (Yes, I know, this DIY is very uneventful... Eventful = electrical trouble shooting, engine/transmission repair/replace, etc). Time: At first I thought it would take up a couple of hours of labor, however, it is only about fifteen minutes. Tools: 1 phillips screwdriver tip #2 and 1 slotted miniature screwdriver.
1. Turn off the map lights/light switch 2. Open the sunglasses storage holder all the way and removed the two screws 3. Remove the map lights lenses to get to the two hidden screws and removed the two additional screws (total of four screws), be careful and take your time because they are very easy to break at the clips 4. Gently pull down the console about 4” and reach in the back to remove the two power connector plugs 5. Pop out the map lights/HomeLink unit from the console and transfer it to the new console 6. Put everything back and test out the new conversation mirror function, map lights, and HomeLink. 7. Done. |

My opinion and conclusion for the conversation mirror assembly to fit for the 03-04 PILOT. Buy the entire assembly. Which gonna cost you alot instead of buying just the housing $35.00.......

Based on your pictures, I don't think it will work for an '03-'04. The Homelink is built into the frame, where as the '05-'06 Homelink is a seperate add-in piece. The '06 part simply has a plastic surround that wraps around the Homelink piece.
Since the headliner is the same on all pilots, you would be able to replace the entire thing (sunglass holder, and Homelink piece), but I'm guessing that would be rather expensive.
I could be wrong. Wilson has ordered one for his, and will let us know for sure. |

Does this mean it won't work in my vehicle...most of the conversation here has seemed to say that '05 or above were OK, yet I also read that if you have the lights with no space between them it won't work. |

I pre-ordered my Pilot, and got it the day the dealer got them on the lot, so mine is an early '05 model. I do have ambient lighting.

Yeah, according to his sig, he has a regular EX. Only the EX-L, EX-L w/ RES and EXL w/ Navi have the ambient lighting. |

| Wonder if the wiring harness is the same, especially for those with ambient lighting on the 05 and those without. Would 03 and 04 have wiring for something that didn't exist until the 05s. All 05s MAY have the ambient light wiring built in with some not using it. Wilson will have to make the call. Keeping fingers crossed for everybody. |

That's a good point. The Homelink buttons/transmitter and the map lights only require a constant 12V source and possibly a ground (which they could probably pull from the body), whereas the ambient lighting would be a switched 12V.
I've noticed on many occasions that Honda does not shy away from using a different wiring harnesses from year to year and even trim level to trim level. This is very different from the domestics I've worked on previously. |
