I was at the airport last night and a guy in the parking lot had a Pilot that was deader than a doornail.. His wife and little daughter’s faces told the story.. Obviously someone had left a reading light on and now the battery was dead. He was parked in tight spot so our jumper cables would not reach.. tried to put it in N to move it back (2005) and the interlock needs power... with the dead battery, it was not budging... so he says have the manual? we glance through it and sure enough (and its been brought up on this site several times.. but I never noticed) there is a manual override for the interlock...so we pop the cover on the steering column and push the key down and sure enough it comes free.. We push it back, let it charge for a while (while I show him the upgrades of course..) and it starts right up. Turns out he is from Canada and had no idea what to do next... they were completely new to the area and AAA was not on his mind. Happy to help out a Pilot brother.. and before I left ,I gave him the card.... www.hondapilot.org and told him make sure you swap out the inside bulbs for LEDs when you get a chance.. it will happen again :)

Pretty cool we both learned something about our Pilots I got to show our northern brother some hospitality maybe someone here will remember the interlock trick when they are stuck somewhere isolated...

Nice story. I read through the Pilot manual twice cover to cover, and several other times online addressing questions. I need to go get my RX 330's manual and read through it again, looking for similar tidbits.:p

Nice going, just imagine the cost if a tow truck was to help him out instead of you.:)

CMasten Thanks for helping a fellow Piloteer and thanks for posting this info.

Even with LED lights, batteries go dead and I would hate to see what a tow truck does when they drag the Pilot out of the space.

The tow trucks around here have long jumper cables so they wouldn't have had to pull the Pilot out of the space to jump it. And the drivers I've dealt with know about the shift interlocks (on an Acura Legend anyway).

Yes, you should memorize that manual because you know most Lexus drivers are no help at all..............:D

Probably have wireless crediit card machines so you can pay up, too.:p

You got that right!:p I'd just call 1-800-getthehelloverhereandfixitnow, and bring me a StarBucks refill while you're at it.:D

Another approach, though I like yours would be to remove the dead battery from the vehicle, charge it for 15-20 minutes and reinstall in the vehicle.
