| I just got back from California, where I originally bought my Pilot, but a few days before I was to start my trip back home I thought I'd take the car in to have the EGR valve checked. I was having the hesitation problem under light acceleration but it only happened once in a while so I didn't know if I'd be able to duplicate the problem. Fortunately, during the service advisor's test drive it happened and she said she'd check to see if they had the EGR in stock. They did not have it so she ordered it but unfortunately the part was arriving the day after I was supposed to be on the road so I just had her give me an invoice stating that the EGR was bad and that they ordered it under warranty. Last Thursday I took the car in for a tranny problem along with an SRS and the EGR problem and the service advisor said that they wouldn't be able to change the EGR valve unless the MIL light was on. I told her that the other dealership had already determined it was bad and had already ordered the part. I showed her the invoice and she said that if they changed it they wouldn't get paid for it. I looked up Service Bulletin 05-026 and it says that in order for the repair to be eligible the malfunction has to be confirmed OR the MIL light must be on. What do you guys suggest I do to make sure this problem gets taken care of? |

Did this dealer even check for trouble codes?
I would contact the service advisor at the first dealer who determined that there was a fault and have her contact the service manager at the dealership that is refusing to do the work, and see if she can get them moving. If they still won't budge, I would go over their head to American Honda. If one part of their service chain has diagnosed the problem, that should be good enough. |

| I wonder what DTC it would set if you unplugged the EGR connector, then reattached it after the MIL is lit? |

It might.
Of course the error code would show a bad connection to the EGR, so the dealer would probably clean the contacts and retest and send you on the way as "repaired". :4: |

It did. I disco'd the EGR and went for a drive, it set an "insufficient lift" DTC (P1491). That should get you in the door.
Now we know. |
