charge my cell phone overnight - Click HERE for Original Thread
CascadeSteve
The power connector for my Pilot is switched off when the ignition switch is off. In my previous vehicle the power point was always on which allowed me to leave my cellphone plugged in overnight and recharge. Does anyone have an idea for how to rewire the power points so that they might always be on.
jay
If you figure out a way to do that, you might end up with a dead battery the next morning. Other owners accidently left an interior grab handle light on, and came back to a dead battery the next morning.

Jay,

I think you are extrapolating too far. The goal is to find an unswitched wire that can be used exclusively for that power takeoff point. Or for all three power takeoff points. I would not want to change any other points within the vehicle. My previous vehicle had the cigarette lighter (power takeoff point) unswitched and for 11 years I had no problem. The phone's current draw is almost nil and charging is terminated when the phone battery is full. I believe I actually rewired an earlier vehicl, but I had the wiring diagram, so it was easy. I just changed the contact to the cigarette lighter from a fuse location that was switched to one that was unswitched. The problem I have now is I don't have a wiring diagram and buying the manual for $70 seems a bit pricy for the solution.

Maybe so. Anyway, a search on "cigarette lighter" popped up this thread with some more information to help you.

This may be of value to you, its from my 05 service manual

CascadeSteve.....there are 2 relays that control all of the accessory sockets as shown in the diagram above. I would focus on the one that controls the console and cargo area sockets since it's easy to get to. It is located above the driver's side fuse panel in a pack of 4 relays. The one to look for has the following wires:

blu/orn: 12v+ all the time
yel/blk: 12v+ in ACC or ON
orn: 12V+ to sockets
blk: ground

The yel/blk wire controls the throw of the relay. If you cut this wire and tap into the blu/orn wire, the relay will be ON all the time and thus the power sockets will work with the engine off. Before attempting, verify all wires with a digital multi-meter and I would recommend to solder and tape your tap connection.

A little warning though.....the relay will always be energized thus putting a small drain on your battery. If you drive the Pilot on a daily basis it probably won't be a problem but if you let the car sit for a while you might have an issue. Hope this info helps!

Im my situation, I just bypass the relay and connect the BLU/ORN wire to ORN wire using a ~2" wire jumper w/ connectors at both ends. So far no problems w/ it.;)

does that mean you just jumpered the switched pins on the relay and didn't worry about whether the relay is on or not?

If you did, good idea, i would do that :)

If you didn't, is it possible to just solder the switched pins out of the relay together? (probably means removing the panel to access the back of it).

Or, just pull the relay and stick a wire with propper spades on the end into the sockets that connect to the switched portion of the relay :)

CascadeSteve
The solution is very simple. Chris Masten sent me the wiring diagrams and relay locations from the service manual.

All that needs to be done is to remove the relay and jumper between points 1 and 2 where the relay was removed. A jumper is a wire with two spade lugs. This leaves the circuit always on, which is exactly what I want.

I wanted to do this for the front relay because I wanted the front two sockets always on to charge my cell phone over night. However, the front relay is exceptionally difficult (impossible) to get to. After spending an hour I finally gave up.

So, the relay for the back two ports is the only one really accessible. The directions for finding it are in earlier posts.

For those that don't understand the purpose of the relay there are four wires going into the relay. Two, points 1 and 2 are the main current carriers for the circuit. The other two, 3 and 4, are energized only when the ignition switch is on. They in turn power an electromagnetic coil that pulls a switch that connects points 1 and 2 internally to the relay. The purpose of the relay is to have one circuit control another circuit. In this case the ignition circuit controls power to the audio system and the accessory power points.

By the way, save the relay, you can easily put it back if for any reason and it is the same relay used in other circuits, so if a relay fails you could use it.

Yep that's that way that was suggested by someone on this forum about 3 years ago. :)

I think your the one that gave me the idea on how to mod the rear power outlet. Thank's again N_Jay!:29:

Hi all,

New member, first post. I can't seem to find the relay for the front 12v jacks in my '07 pilot. I pulled out all 6 relays behind the driver sunroof control panel and still had power to the radio and front 12v adapters. Anybody try this with their '07 pilot? Sorry if this has already been discussed, but I looked and couldn't find it.
Erik
The relay for the front accessory power sockets is located in the Passenger Side Under Dash Fuse/Relay Box. It should be the top center one.

in that bank of 6 the front left relay (as it sits in the bracket) is the one for the rear 12v outlet....i will dig into the front passenger fuse/relay box by this weekend and report back to on how i did to make the front ones hot all the time.

well...I found the relay...it was behind the fuse/relay block on the passenger side (there are 3 along the top...2 black and one green...it is the center one, the most forward black one). unfortunately it also turns the radio on when jumpered.
does someone have the manual for the '07 and can post (or email) the schematic?
it just doesn't make sense that the radio would be connected to the same relay.

Can somebody tell me the relay location for this mod in an '06 Pilot? I've done it in my Ridgeline and really like it so I wanted to do it in my wofe's Pilot too but can't find where the relay is. I tried all of the ones under the hood but no luck. I looked under the dash on the driver's side but didn't see it. Is it there and I am just missing it?

Thanks

If someone hasn't done it by tonight I can make a copy and post it.
It will take me a little while to get it done because we have Vacation Bible School tonight.

yep...thats it...I don't understand why they would have the Navigation unit powered from the same relay/fuse.

The good news is, if you don't have the DVD Nav or RES, then, it looks like you can do this mod very easily...but for me, it looks like i need to intercept those WHT/RED wires to the power oulets and feed them from another fuse :3:

Thanks for the diagram BigDozer!
BigBlackAv
CAn you show that wiring harnesss...that way i can see where the best place to intercept that wire is to re-feed the power outlets?
Thanks!

BigDozer66 - would you be able to post the pin layout of the switch for the heated power mirrors. TIA! I posted a request yesterday if you want to reply in that thread. Thanks!
Erik
I do not reccomend bypassing the relay since it also supplies power to the Audio Control Unit, NAV System and NAV display. This seems like a lot of stuff to have on all the time. I have not yet done it, but I am going to rewire the two front accessory sockets to a 20A always on fuse that is not being used for anything in my Honda. It's Fuse 1 in the Aux Fuse Box and I can pick up the circuit at Connector C302 under the dash. The fuse is intended to feed the 110V inverter that comes with the RES.

Which relays would you like to know the location of?

There are many pages in the manual of every relay in it.

I think there are 4 under the hood, 2 on the drivers side (under dash) and one on the passenger side.

just pop out the dome light/traction control/cruise switch pod and you have access though that hole...it is easy...when you jump that relay, you get always on power at the rear outlet and the outlet at the back of the console....but the one in the console and under the radio is still on w/ the key in the "on" position.
BigBlackAv
***UPDATE***

I now have my outlet in the console working all the time....i had to take the console a part (about 15 min w/ instructions found on this site)....and cut the white wire w/ red tracer to the console outlet and spliced it into the orange wire that feeds the rear console outlet...both are fed from the front, under the radio...the orange wire is on the left side of the front of the console and the white w/ red tracer wire is on the right side.

BTW, you have to jump the left relay 1st! (the one in bigdozers pic, labeled "rear accessory power socket relay").

WOO HOO!!! I'm charging my cell over night now!

I figured out how to get the switch pod out but now I'm having trouble getting the relay out. I can get my fingers on it but can't get a good grip to pull it out. Any ideas?

the whole relay holder will slide up and off of the bracket...w/ it out of the bracket, it is easier to remove the appropriate relay and put in the jumper...then reinstall the relay holder.
good luck!
