I searched and found this in a couple other threads but no solutions were ever posted that I could find. Does anybody have any updates about what your dealer did to fix this? I called my local dealer and have an appointment but when I told them about the power steering whine problem and the brake clunk they proceeded to tell me these are both known problems and Honda has told them they don't have a fix, just a characteristic of the vehicle, but they will look at it anyway.
Well, for the branke clunk I'll print the tsb and give that to them, but for the ps whine problem I'm not sure what to do. This is my first Honda, but I have never been told by a dealer that my vehicle under warranty is supposed to make all sorts of strange noises. |

Did they put on the tow package.
People have had problems with dealers forgetting to do the last step in the directions to get any air out of the system. (Directions, We don't need no stinkin directions!)
Describe the whine. |

The whine to me sounds just like a power steering pump w/ low fluid, but I have checked and the fluid level is fine. There is kind of a gurgling noise in there too. It is more pronounced when it is colder and when making sharp turns.
There is no tow package on this one. |

This is the exact same problem i had. You probably saw my thread about it when you searched. Did you check the p/s fluid cold with the engine running? If not, try it that way next time and youll probably see that it is in fact low.
keep us updated, im very interested to see what reasons they give you for this problem. |

I just checked it cold, while running. It is right at the lower level mark. still very noisy, especially when turning sharply. I will add some fluid up to the full mark and see if that helps, although I don't think it's low enough to cause noise like that. I'm sure the dealer will just tell me it is a known problem and not to worry about it. |

Pilot may not have it but other PAS boxes have air bleed valves.
To bleed you turn the wheelall the way to one side, open valve bleed release tighten and then turn the other way, top up the reservoir.
Is Pilot the same? |

Inspect the fluid to see if it is airated. Look close at the color. If it's airated it will not look as dark and transparent as the stuff in the bottle. If you look into the reservoir with a flashlight it will LOOK airated, frothy. If so, the dealer needs to find out where it's picking up the air. (Use only O.E. fluid)
On other models I have found pressure lines touching something. Check their routing. Sometimes that can give you noise, too.
Keep the level between the two marks & that part will be fine. |
