Managed to install Pioneer Avic-D1 although I have yet to hook up the VSS wire. Still seems to track o.k. Unlocked it with the info provided on this site. Navigation works great. But, I've noticed the radio signal pick up is very weak. Anyone with Avic-D1 with this problem? I've used the antenna adaptor for Honda head units (same as the one for Accords, I think) and connected the wire from adaptor with the blue wire from Avic-D1 harness and plugged in the antenna jack into Avic D1. Am I missing something? Does the unlock interfere with the blue antenna wire in any way?
Otherwise very happy with the unit. Will post some pics when I get back on Monday. |

The wiring harness that connects to the one used by your OEM stereo has a blue wire. This wire is the turn-on lead for the antenna amplifier. On the OEM harness the wire is white/yellow. If there is not a blue wire on the harness that connect to the OEM harness, you are not powering the amplifier. On the Pioneer harness you will connect the blue wire to the blue wire on the other harness. Once you get that squared away you should be good to go. If everything is connected correctly and your signal is still weak, you should meter the blue wire on the Pioneer harness and check it for 12V and if you do not see it, return the D1. I've got an N2 and have no problems picking up radio stations. As far as you using the Accord's antenna adapter, I was not aware that there was such a thing. I think most vehicles' antenna wires are universal to most head units with the exception of GMs. |

I don't recall using an antenna adapter either. By chance are your windows tinted with metallic tint? The antenna is integrated to the rear side window - it's not as effective as a steel exterior antenna. Adding tint will reduce the reception as well. I had problems at a drive in theater picking up an FM modulated screen.
By the way, just find your VSS with a multimeter behind the instrument cluster. One of the wires connects to your speedometer. That's the wire you want to use. |

Finally found the problem. Thanks for your help Cali. The problem was the poor connection with the antenna adaptor. I think starting 06 Pilot, you need the adaptor to plug into aftermarket head unit, Itchy. I said it may have been Accord's but it is actually for the Element, Odyssey and new Pilot.
This was my first aftermarket installation. Took a little longer than I thought, but learned a lot in the process.:p |
