Windshield Crack Repair Gone Horribly Wrong - Click HERE for Original Thread
tuta
What I Did Wrong:
I let a street corner guy fix a crack on The Captain's windshield. yeah -- he was cheap.

What He Did Wrong:
Almost fixed the crack, but the clear piece of adhesive that goes over the repair work blew/fell off and is now firmly attached to my right front quarter section (not the hood). It is a little two inch circular piece.

Question:
How should I go about trying to get that off? Is a blow dryer my best option? That may get the piece of plastic off the paint job, but how would I get the adhesive part off the paint job? Or do I even worry about that?

Thanks for your help... and I have learned my lesson already.

Take it back, and let him fix it and let him be responsible for the fix or the fix of the fix if he screws up.

:21: I'm sorry but that was funny. anyway, he should be the one fixing it for you. I think they use cyanoacrylate type of glue. take the plastic off and just apply rubbing compound until you have completely removed the stuff. if the tape is hard to removed, apply water. using a blow dryer will just bond it in place.

I don't think he'll be able to find the guy. Remember, he found the guy on a street corner. Even if he finds the guy, the guy probably wouldn't know how to fix it. I never trust fly by nights. Besides, if you have insurance, most of them will wave the deductable and just pay to have your windshield repaired. It usually runs no more than $35.

i just got my wife's windshield fixed and was surprised that my cheap insurance company paid the $50 tab. Actually, the repair shop only wanted $40 but insurance agrees to pay them $50. Reminds me of health insurance. Oh, I have a $500 deductible too....

Get those windshield cracks fixed...in most cases, it's free. My wife's windshield would have cost $200 to replace...and replacement DOES invoke the deductible!
