Motor Trend says Honda Civic top car for 2006
Compact auto cited for sleek styling, innovative technology

Updated: 8:51 a.m. ET Nov. 22, 2005
DETROIT - The Honda Civic, which in its latest incarnation offers drivers a more sleek and upscale take on the popular compact car, has claimed the honor of 2006 Car of the Year from Motor Trend magazine.
All four new Civic models — a sedan, a coupe, a high-performance model called the Si and a gasoline-electric hybrid — were given the award.
"Honda deserves a standing ovation for not playing it safe again," Angus MacKenzie, Motor Trend editor in chief, said in a statement Tuesday. "The engineering passion that Honda ... was founded on radiates from these new Civics."
Motor Trend editors put the Civics through two weeks of track testing, performance drives, and walk-around appraisals. The magazine chooses its top car based in part on value, standing in its class and significant developments.
"With their bold, contemporary styling and innovative technology, the new Civics are primed for success in one of the most competitive market segments in the country," Motor Trend said in its announcement.
Motor Trend picked its Car of the Year from a field of 28 new models, including the Audi A3, BMW 3 Series, Cadillac DTS, Chevrolet HHR, Dodge Charger, Ford Fusion, Mercedes-Benz R-Class, Pontiac Solstice, Toyota Avalon and the Volkswagen Jetta and Passat.
Last year's winner was the Chrysler 300, the uniquely styled sedan that attracted buyers from rappers to grandmothers. Last month, the publication named Nissan's Xterra as its sport utility vehicle of the year.
Motor Trend is scheduled to announce its truck of the year in December. |

| A friend of mine just bought a Civic 4-door EX with NAV. Sweet! He loves the mp3 capability and Aux-in connectivity of the audio system. He's purchased only Hondas since 1976, and still has a '96 Civic 4-door EX and '88 Prelude Si. He recently donated his '80 Civic hatchback that still ran like a top to the Salvation Army. |

| Up against the competition, it's a great little car. I'm seriously thinking of replacing my ford with an 06 civic but gotta wait 6 or 8 months........:( |

My Daughter just received her temps and I'm in the need of purchasing a third car sometime this summer. I was looking at the Civic along with several other cars but I think this might be a lock. I usually just have one car payment but the time has come.

I guess it's the car of the year if you don't mind your gas pedal sticking without notice!!! I think it's already been recalled and recified.:D |

| Hopefully I can push the purchase date back enough that Honda could fix any problems associated with first year models of the Civic. Of course I will be also looking at the new Honda Fit premiering this spring. |

Have you seen the pictures of the "Fit"? It's nothing like the Civic in terms of styling. I don't have the MPG figure differences on hand but IMHO the Civic is way better styled and performance related and likely quite a bit safer! |

True, I quess what works in Europe as the Honda Jazz might not "fit" in North America with our big cars, SUV's and trucks. But still I'm courious about its popularity across the waters.:)

Wow a guy who does his homework and with rocket speed!!! Now where's the comparables with the civic?:2:
You do have to admit that the picture above is a pretty pimped out Fit compared to a sedan civic which IMHO looks very good! |

| Civic is a typical Honda. The more I look at it, the more I like it. But I would go with Canadian Acura CSX (Japanese Civic) instead since that's the only way to get Navi on it. :) |

Is a 2300-2500 lb car enough protection for you newly certificated daughter?
Very cute, however. |
