Me Again, Changing Stuff - Click HERE for Original Thread

After setting up my 5.1 system with the addition of a Pioneer center channel speaker, I figured out that my Eclipse AV-8132 had a problem. The center channel processing was messed up and the center volume would cut in and out. So, I took the Kenwood out of my F-150 and put it in the Pilot and made a trim ring for it. I bought the Kenwood KDS-P901 processor that does Dolby Digital, DTS and all the adjustments you could imagine. The bad thing was it was missing the fiber optic cable needed to get Dolby Digital sound. I thought, no big deal, until I got hit with $135 for the cable, ouch. It is suppose to arrive today so, I am hoping to try out the 5.1 over the holiday. Just another change in the ever changing system.

Post some pics when you get a chance. BTW.....does the 901 paired with the DDX7015 give you level control over the subwoofer? This something I couldn't verify in the owner's manual.

Do you mean more than the 7015 does? The 7015 has a built in level control for the sub.

The $135 cable just arrived. I really can not wait to try it out. Kenwood is so slick that they made it where you can not listen to the CD/DVD player full range without the optical cable. The tuner will play full range but, the CD/DVD player actually has no sound. It took me forever to figure out that I could at least get sound out of the front preouts using Zone control. The tuner play full range thru the MZ bus cable but, with the CD/DVD player, only the front and rear preouts work, not the sub preout. That was nice. They could have put that in the manual.

I was under the impression when you use the 901 with the 7015 that you bypass all of the built-in sound controls of the 7015. Page 61 of the manual only shows channel level adjustment for the 5 speakers and not the sub when the 901 is used. But if you can still access the sub level control through the regular audio control screen then my question is answered.

How did you end up mounting the Pioneer center channel?

You're not alone.... just purchased Alpine's latest nav, NVE-N872A. It arrives Wednesday.

Afterwards looking forward to installing the real time traffic module.

The subwoofer level adjustment is actually on another screen anyway so, I think it still adjusts the same with or without the 901.

I mounted the Pioneer up by the windshield and just used some industrial velcro. I ran the wire into the little light cover right by the windshield. I need to try and paint the center channel grill to match the dash so it does not show as much.

Well, looks like the Kenwood setup is going back in my F-150 at the end of this week. I just bought a demo Eclipse AV8533 single din indash screen. The Kenwood just sits at an angle that makes the screen too difficult to see on bright days.

The AV8533 is basically the updated model of the AV8132 that I had. It has built in Dolby Digital and it is touch screen. Which I have really gotten spoiled by the DDX7015's touch screen.

So now, I will have 5.1 in the Pilot and my Ford F-150.

BTW...If you are a movie nut and love the sound, you should really try to hear a 5.1 in a vehicle. It sounds awesome.

Updates to come, (of course).

any pics of your setup?

I will try to get some pics of the new unit. I got it installed yesterday and the sound is awesome. I moved the Kenwood pieces back into my F-150 so, as soon as I get anther center channel speaker, I can have 5.1 in both vehicles.
