"Cushion tapes" lost adhesion - Click HERE for Original Thread

It's starting to get cold here in Eastern PA, with temperatures dipping into the mid-twenties. Every morning this week, from the time I first start the Pilot until the interior warms up, I keep hearing this rattling in the 'A' Pillar (driver's side). It takes awhile for this to happen on the cold mornings, so in the meantime, this rattling drives me nuts.

This evening, I decided to take a peek behind the 'A' Pillar trim to try to determine what was making that racket. Oddly enough, it's the wiring harness for the Day/Night mirror. It seems that the cushion tapes have lost adhesion and are allowing the wiring harness to lay there loose against the 'A' Pillar trim.

Now, obviously, I can't just re-apply this stuff, so I'm stuck looking for a replacement. Does anyone out there either know the 3M part number for this stuff or where I might get something similiar to it? I checked on Majestic Honda and it seems that you can't just order the "cushion tapes" seperately from the day/night mirror kit.

Any assistance/thoughts/ideas would be most appreciated!

Bet you that Wilson has what you need!

Wilson would definitley be able to help here. I had a similar issue with my overhead seat belts and ended up using some foam tape from Home Depot that is used in weather stripping, strong adhesive and you can get the foam side in any material or thickness you like.

I'm sure almost any duct tape will do as well as any double-sided tape. Just make sure you clean the surface and make sure it's warm enough for the tape to stick. If necessary, use a hair dryer to warm the area. If the wire rattles, you can also use a piece of soft foam and sandwich (compress) the wire between the pillar and the plastic cover...no adhesive to mess with. This last suggestion works well, I've used it quite a few times.

Your local Pep Boys, Kragen, etc. should all carry that 3M double sided tape. If not, you could always try Home Depot and the like.

Thanks all - I'll have to peek around Pep Boys or Advanced the next time I'm out there.

I will send you some foam tape. Do you need adhesive on one side or boths side of the foam tape?
