OK, I just picked up the 2006 Pilot EX, it has the XM Ready 6 Disc in Dash changer stereo in it.
I was curious about where I could pick up the stuff I needed to get the XM radio installed. I already have the SkyFi, but want to make it part of the stereo instead of the external adapters. Can you use an XM Tuner like from Best Buy?
Any help on where to get the parts, and such would be greatly appreciated. They wanted $500 for the stuff at Honda, I know for my odyssey they had the stuff at Best Buy for $100 or something.

The 06 EXs have XM built in. All you need to do is call and have it activated.
Right?
Confirm by pressing the SAT button and see if you get XM Ch#1. If so, just call 800-xm-radio and you are good to go.

FYI, if you think you are going to get away with no paying the dealer for XM radio and getting the aftermarket stuff from Best Buy, think again. If you have an XM Ready stereo from Honda, you need to have the dealer make it work with XM. There is no aftermarket stuff to integrate right into the radio. The only way to get XM aftermarket is to use a SkyFi, Roady, Roady XT etc.
We just got the Roady XT installed it's small and has a vent clip, there is a piece that Delphi makes to sort of hard wire it into the cigarette lighter out of sight so you don't see any wires. All you see is the face clipped to the vent and only about $150 for all the parts including $50 for installation at Best Buy.
Just an FYI |

I am not in my Pilot for long periods during the week, 15 minutes to work. On the weekends I take long trips but my iPod / X3 setup works fine. What am I missing. What does it offer other than a million choices to stuff that most of it I may not care for?

I was with you at one point. But once I tried it, I decided I could never go back to free radio. Love my iPod, love XM, use them in the car and at home, for different reasons. Don't watch as much TV as I used to.:p |

| Thanks Jay. Have heard about some that were portable and you could use in the house and in the car. Are these some of the ones mentioned above ( SkyFi, Roady, Roady XT)? |

Yes, all of them are portable. The SkyFi, SkyFi2, and Roady XT are more easily portable because they use car or home kits that you locate or mount somewhere, and easily move the unit itself and pop it into its home or car "cradle" and away you go.
I like my XM so much that I have one unit dedicated to the car (a Roady2), and one dedicated to home (a SkyFi2). The subscription is $12.95/month for the first unit and $6.99/month for the second. I prepaid for two years (when the rate on the first unit was still $9.95/month), lowering that unit's monthly rate to $8-something a month. And it's a steal, IMHO. And the programming is excellent, and much much broader than the 100 song playlists on free radio. Not to mention the great special shows, etc. that you'd never hear on regular broadcast radio. |

Don't have XM in my '03 Pilot, but it came standard in my '06 Accord.
First, if you're going to continue the subscription, call 800-682-4114 and mention that you got a flyer in the mail. XM has a re-up promotion, called Win back Z for $77/year.
Second, although this forum is great, there's a really good one for XM radio, over at XM411 |

That is awesome! Has anyone else tried to get this? That's over 50% off the list price. Do you know if it applies to new customers only? I previously had 2 XM Roady units, but have since cancelled since my wife & I picked up 2 new cars with built in Sirius (her) and XM (me). My radio is still running in the 3-month trial mode, but will need to sign up before Feb. Hoping I can get signed up under this.... |

I can't say if that promotion code is valid any longer. But, I believe that it'll only work for you if you were a previous XM subscriber and had let your subscription drop.
My girlfriend just bought a new Civic and had the XM radio installed. I tried to use it and was simply told that "I'm not eligible for that promotion."
I guess that sort of implies that it may still be valid, but, since I had never been an XM subscriber before, I couldn't use it.
Good luck everyone!
Larry. |
