Hey there,
Since I already have a portable DVD player
I went ahead with this. It should hopefully
arrive before I leave on vacation.
1) SF240 - DVD-Mount Car Kit with Flexible Steel Mounting Arm $24.95
Buy.com

2) FM Transmitter that allows the DVD sound
to be picked up by the radio on 4 specific
channels $14.95 to $31.95. (I picked $31.95).
Buy.com

3) I also picked up a Rear-Panel Audio/Video/S-Video Extend-A-Jack $14.99.
Radioshack

4) 400w power inverter w/ 2 AC/DC plugs
$34.99.
invertersrus.com

All these together will allow me the ability
to put my 7"-8" screen portable dvd player
in the vehicle so it's out of the way. It
will also provide me the ability to play
PS2 or XBox if I want. The portable DVD
player has a 180' degree swivel screen so
the parent can still switch out of the DVDs
from up front. :2:
I guess we will see how it works.
Overall it's about $127.00 for everything.
I think it's worth it.

we need picture after the installation. :4:
It's nice for sure with the minimum amount of money to get a DVD player for the Pilot. :) |

Sladezero,
The SF240 will not work without modification. The arm is way too short to reach viewing level and I had to make a bracket to mount the unit to the seat. |

Hey there,
The dvd mount is only supposed to go about
as high as the console. My plan was to only
have it seen be people who are in the 2nd
row. When things like this mention 15"
then I know it's not as high as a headrest
mount. When I get it I will be sure to post
pics.

Hey there,
Steelblue, you are correct. I looked at it
today and I will need to install a bracket to
mount it when it arrives. I guess it's off
the local Lowes/Home Depot for this one.
I am also looking at putting all these items
(except the player of course)into a nice audio
box that will sit under the seat. This will
have the nice tucked away look. I will
post pics once I am done.
BTW- I also picked up a volume amplifier
and three headphone volume controlers
from Radio Shack today. The passengers
I know will have their own preferences
on how loud they want it. I also got split
loom tubing for aesthetics.

Volume Control

Volume Booster (for 3 headphone connectors)

Split Loom Tubing
Cheers.

I just want to say I use one of these, it fits great on the pilot, and every vehicle I have tried. costs $19 at buy.com.
http://www.digitalinnovations.com/products.php?cat=7
specs say must have adjustable headrest, but they mean must have a head rest with posts which pilot does have in front. |

Is your Pilot an '06? My '05 sure doesn't appear to have headrest posts... |

Incorect. Your 05 as well as all pilots , 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 sure do have front headrest posts. and this mount will work fine.
the 2003 through 2005 are not adjustable but they have posts.
Just stick your fingers in between. In fact a normal adjustment tab is right there by the post so you can remove the headrests.
this digital innovations mogo will work perfect on your 05. takes about 5 seconds to install and remove. third row passengers can see the picture as well.
The unit mentioned at the begining of the thread SF240 vibrates and sways. |

What did you end up doing for audio? |

No kidding. I learned something new today :)
Does it block your rear view mirror at all? Sounds like a great setup; I'm going to take a closer look.
Thanks. |

The Sony PS1 LCD screen has speakers and an amp built in. |

Doesn't block the rear view with either our 7" or 8"
For us the height was better than on console which gave the kids a neck strain looking down. and it is nichely visable from all three second row seats and actually not bad even viewing from the third row.
this solution was best for us, as we park in our back alley an urban area and headset monitors are a prime reason for break ins. I just throw our portable under the seat.
since our portables have inputs I keep an xbox with about 75 films on it under the other seat -- but that is anotehr story.
a pal just went to buy one and the price on buy.com went up about $10 to $29 but even at that price I think it is a great solution |

I am interested in doing this - great idea! Two questions:
Do you have picures of the installation?
How is the sound quality from the sony units?
This option is great for us - our youngest (of three) will be in the middle position in the center row facing backwards, so the 'floating' option using the front headrests and a portable DVD unit will not work. |

I bought it off of amazon.com for 19.99 and instead of waste about 7 bucks on shipping I added a cheapo cartoons dvd for the kids to avail of the free super saver shipping($25 minimum qualification). Came out to 26 something. But still better than buy.com or the shipping fee w/out the dvd.
Quick question since mine still with ups system right now: With an 8" portable dvd, i kinda can tell it wont block the rearview mirror, but will it block your shoulder view to the blind spot on the right of your vehicle? I'm asking coz no matter what I'm still gonna use this mount, its just that before i recieve it on monday, i wanna get those blind spot mirrors for 0.97cents at walmart if i need em. |

This might be a good alternative...

ecsw, do you know how much are they sold in Sony store and what is the screen size of these LCD monitors? Canadian Tire had some LCD monitor for sale last month with $99 each, but the picture is not as clear as I wanted. Thanks. |

The bag come with it might be able to hang onto the headrest. If not, tie a strape from a backpag or something on the speaker cradle onto the head rest, then put the player into the speaker cradle. ;)
BTW, it plays Divx disc as well.

Looks like the PS1 LCD screens are up to $50 on eBay, so it is not a great deal anymore.
The dsound is OK, (good enough for kids) |
