Auto Day/Night Rear View Mirror Installation - Click HERE for Original Thread
HondaP06
I just purchased a 06 Pilot EX and I am getting ready to install a factory auto day/night mirror with compass. My question is do I absolutely have to disconnect the battery before doing this? The instructions I downloaded from the net for a 2003 Pilot says to do this first. I would rather not have to this since you have to reprogram the radio, engine, etc. Also, the instructions give directions for routing wires for vehicles with "RES" and without "RES" What is RES? Any help, advice, or helpful hints would be appreciated.

First off, Congratulations on your new Pilot, and, before anyone else posts it...:needpics:

And, you need to download the new instructions for the mirror installation. They changed for '06. It's now MUCH easier. I believe that most of the wiring is already there going all the way to the headliner. You can find the new instructions here: http://www.collegehillshonda.com/in...nightmirror.pdf

And, IMHO, if the directions recommend disconnecting the battery, then disconnect the battery. The time to enter your radio code is minor. You won't lose any of your radio presets.

"RES" is for vehicles with the Rear Seat Entertainment system (DVD player). The other one you'll see is "NAV" for cars with the GPS Navigation system (which also uses a DVD but you can't watch movies on it).

Congrats again and good luck with the Auto D/N mirror! I'm sure you'll love having it! I love mine ;)

Good luck!
Larry.

Thanks so much Larry!!! I will definately take some pictures before my next post! FYI, it is a Desert Rock, 4 wheel drive EX... which I love so far!! I am getting the scrunching door seal noise that I have seen people complain about on this forum. I plan to have the dealer adjust the door latches so the doors fit a little tighter when I take it back for its 1st oil change.
Thanks Again,
Greg

I installed the auto/dim mirror on our '06 Pilot a couple of weeks ago and I did not disconnect the battery. Very easy install.

Enjoy

Thanks DJ5!

For the install, the instructions say to remove the right visor. I only removed the visor holder and I was able to pull the headliner down enough to access the mirror connector.

The connector is taped down to another wire just above the visor holder.
Once you remove the Homelink unit and visor holder, you should be able to see the connector by looking through the hole where the Homelink was mounted. I also used the mirror power source to hardwire my radar dectector.

PM me if you have any questions.

Thanks Again DJ5 !!

I installed the new mirror on Saturday and it went really well. It took me about 35 minutes. I did not have to remove the visor or the visor holder. I did not have to disconnect the battery either. It just plugged in to the connector that was right there at the console taped to the harness. Thanks for the forums help!

I should have taken pictures last week as it has been nothing but on and off rain here in Indy the last few days... Pictures will be coming as soon as it dries up around here!
