Has anyone ever had an issue with getting your Pilot out of Park? I paid my Pilot off Friday - stupid me.... anyway, on Saturday I put the key into the ignition, turned the Pilot on and couldn't shift out of Park... I turned the wheel, nothing I tried worked. So I popped off the little tab on the top of the steering column and inserted my key, put the Pilot in Neutral and started it. But I can not get out of park without doing this process. I have tried everything, pushing the break down hard, turning the wheel numerous ways, the only thing that works is pushing in the key... which of course os a pain in the a$$!!! :)
Anyone have anything for me? Someone thought it was an alarm problem or security problem of some sort... I though about disconnecting the battery to see if that made a difference but to me it doesn't't sound like that, sounds like a part problem.... I don't know.
If you tell me there is a recall on it, I'll send you a candy bar!! Ha Ha
I have a 2003, no warranty left and 44000 miles... so it's parts and labor....

Make sure your brake lights are working.
It uses the same switch.
If they are then it is the solenoid or the wiring.
Have a dealer check it out. |

Holy crap, you are good..... No, I do not have brake lights.... I have tail lights, but no brake lights....
So, is that a good thing or a bad thing.... A fuse perhaps :12: or are you saying if the brakes don't work, it's a solenoid or wiring?
Thanks a ton for responding!!!! |

| Can't you get it out of park if you pop the small piece of plastic on the top of the steering column....I know there are threads on this, and its mentioned in the owners handbook but can't seem to find the right chapter...... |

| Yes, I can get it out of park by putting my key into the top of the steering column, but my brake lights are also out..... Anyone know what to check or is it a "you need to take it to the repair guy problem"? |

| Get down on your hands and knees and see if the brake light switch, which presses on the pedal has gotten loose etc |

| Nothing looks disconnected. Of course I'm not an auto mechanic so that is just me, eyeballing it. I see a tan swicth into a white connector attached to the brake pedal and that is intact. I'm going to check the fuse.... |

| I checked the STOP fuse # 7 under the hood and it looks good, I replcaed it with a spare fuse and still nothing. I have tail lights, backup lights and turn signals... |

| The Shift Lock Release is outlines in the Driving Chapter - Page 236 under Automatic Transmission. It states if you have to use this oit means your vehicale is developing a problem.... Looks like I'm be taking a trip to the repairman and putting a big sign in my back window that states CAUTION: NO BRAKE LIGHTS :bonk: |

Its probably just the brake light switch or the wiring to the switch.
Should be an easy fix. |

So what I gather is that when you press on the brake pedal to put the vehicle into gear, the switch on the pedal activates the tail lights and activates a solenoid which allows the shifter to move. smurtzy's broken switch prevented both the solenoid and the brake lights from working.
Clever. |
