Hello
I recently purchased a 05 pilot ex. and added some oem and aftermarket accessories. having some experience with stereo installations, i wanted to share the easiest way (and other tips) to install a double din unit in the pilot.
I removed the factory double din unit.
I also removed the multi disk player under the ac controls (replaced it with pocket from 06 pilot pocket.
using the factory brackets i mounted the double din unit. (eclipse avn 5495). I purchased the wiring harness so that I didn't have to cut the factory wiring harness.
I also purchased the PAC steering wheel interface SWIX so that I could use the steering wheel controls. (depending on the unit that you buy ex. alpine and eclipse, you can directly interface the remote module into your head unit, for less interfacing hassles)
I interfaced my factory subwoofer to the eclipse head unit using alpine mxe m300 single channel amplifer and interfaced to my sub woofer output on the eclipse head unit. This way I have bass without major modifications. I tucked the amp behind the head unit in the dash.
finally I purchased the radio panel from a 2005 EX panel with (navigation) or LX panel (same thing) because the EX stereo has a curve on the side of the stereo which makes it difficult to make your trim plate. (if you should decide to use the same panel its still possible but may not look as nice)
finally I cut the trim out of quarter inch black plexi glass (laser cut from a local plastic shop: )
painted the trim piece with trim black (satin flat black) to match with factory panel.
and it was fairly painless and the outcome was fantastic.
will upload pics and part numbers soon. |

| Looking forward to seeing those pics and part numbers! I'm considering an Avic D2 and want it to look as stock as possible. Hadn't yet considered using the nav or LX panel for a flat fit, so I'm very interested to see your results! |
