| I just bought the 06 LX and the avic-d2. I need some instructions of removing the stock HU. I saw some threads had this discussion already but they were for the previous models. The 06 dash is different. Please help if you have some information. It would be nice if i can also get the VSS wire location and the closest back up wire. Thank you guys |

So if you want specific directions, go to www.hondacuraworld.com or www.handaccessories.com, and look for the factory directions for installation of a cassette player for an '06 Pilot. The instructions will show you how to remove the LX head unit.
I've done it 4 times so far while swapping in radios :D The quick answer is that you remove the 2 screws holding in the black plastic trim around the gauge cluster, then you pop out the dash trim piece between the gauges and the radio area, then you CAREFULLY pop out the whole trim piece around the radio, including the 2 vents right below it (all one piece). It's held in by 4 clips that are tight but do come out if you slowly work them out. Don't use a screwdriver to pry the trim piece out - you'll scratch it or perhaps break it. Once the trim piece is off you can remove the 4 screws that hold in the radio and go from there.
Also the instructions include the location of the VSS wire on the 2WD vehicles..

Thank you for the help. Yup i'm going to be real careful. those trims look like they get scratch easily. Thanks again
I also checked the website. Those isntructions are for the 03 model. I think it's different in the 06 model. Isnt that true? |

If you go to the www.handaccessories.com site and go to the '06 pilot page, the instructions for the cassette player are for the '06. They are different than the '03-05 since the trim is different......
edit - here's the specific link http://www.handaccessories.com/pilot/06audio.pdf |

| I installed the AVIC-D2 already but havent connected the VSS and the backup wire yet. Anyone got the info on the honda pilot 2006 lx, please help!!!!!! I tried to tap in from the reverse light in the back, but those lights dont have ground as a common. They need V- and V+ to turn on. I used a multimeter to measure voltage accross ground and the hot wire of the light; no voltage there. But when i measured accross both wires coming in the light, then i got 12v. What's going on? please help. |

| You should be able to find the reverse wire in one of the harnesses going into the instrument gauge cluster. Honda rarely changes their wire colors even across different models. The reverse wire is usually white and will show ground when the transmission is shifted into reverse. On the '04 models, there are 3 harnesses going into the cluster. The one with the reverse wire has 14 pins....look for something similar in your '06 and test with your DMM. |

thanks for all of the help guys. my installation is completed. i cut the trim and sand it down some, so it fits perfect. No need to get custom trimming or anything. VSS wire was found in the LX at PCM connector A pin 29
Hope this helps, enjoy!
