hello
having a issue with honda pilot 2003 ex
vtm4 code..(already contacted the person with that login! ha)
but if anyone has info on how to get rid of it let me know. everytime i go to the dealer i get ripped off madly. i think it needed a tranny change since it has been over 15k and the honda specs dictate it at every 15k.
vtm4 would come and turn off with restart now it just stays!
i am thinking tranny flush+ code reset
anyone have any experience with this code.
the honda dealers in miami are only doing code reads till 3 pm weekdays!
i was thinking of taking it to a tire kingdom on a saturday.
thanks for your time and input!!

TSB tells of 2 recall works - both have been done on transmission. cur runs fine -shifts smoothly and pickup speed past 60 ok. no knocks or dings at shifts.

I had to get up off the sofa to go get the manual, wow, this must be important.:p

Seriously I just went outside and the manual for the 05 calls for transmission fluid change every 45,000 normal service and every 30,000 severe maintenance.

It DOES call for the VTM-4 fluid to be changed at 15,000 and 30,000 and then every 30,000 miles normal service and 7,500 and 15,000 with every 15,000 after that for severe service. Maybe that was what you meant.

At 16,000 since June 30th last year, I will follow normal service except with Honda's issues with transmissions I will change transmission every 30,000.

Don't recommend a flush. Several threads around here on that and the bottom line is Honda does not recommend it. Best stay with what they say if there is a chance you will have to discuss it with them later.

Get the code READ (not just reset), it should tell you what may be causing the issue.

Just go to any autozone store & have them retrieve the code for you.

Thanks to the ppl that replied i went to autozone (free use of their scanner! worked great - THANKS)!!!!!!!!!!
came up with code p1491 &p1456

on this site and msn auto this seems to be a common problem with the EGR valve @ 31k light driving in Florida (no snow/harsh or v4 use since purchase). I was going to call honda tomorrow and ask about status on this issue and if they plan to do a recall/replace.

(same as post on kingcobra's thread!)

You should have the letter from Honda about the EGR valva, Ima in Canada, but USA friends all get one.

I had the Transmission (Engine) light came on, followed by VTM4 light.

When you restart the lights will go off for a whilre then came back.

So I take the letter and went to the Honda dealer, thought everything would be free.

But they came up with some error codes, I am not sure that the same as yours, I remember it means misfire of cyclinder 3,4,5, and 6, no kidding.

So they refused to replace EGR as they said has to be the EGR valve error code  , and had to pay $98 to reset, agrued on phone for a long time.

Exactly 4 weeks later, Sat, both lights came on, went to dealer and say they should replace EGR valve and see if this came back on, If it is then I am will to pay the EGR part/labour.

At the same time, told them to refund my $98, they did.

After that till now, no more Engine/VTM4 light.

In looking into the TBS for EGR, the TBS says .....error code OR hesitation systom, which I had the hesitations....

Hope it helps.

Please check the other thread that you also posted, your error code is exactly the EGR valve error code. DTC 1491.
