Kicker enclosed sub comments needed - Click HERE for Original Thread

I'm still learning & need some comments on how subs differ. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with an already assembled sub enclosure.

Can anybody compare the following:

Kicker 05DCVR122 Vented enclosure with dual 12" CompVR subwoofers

and

Kicker VS12L52 Ported enclosure with one 12" L5 Solobaric subwoofer

and

Kicker 06VCVX122 12" CompVX Single Vented Box, 2 Ohm

Other Kicker enclosures here

As a starting point, using the above subs:
How would a single 10" sound compared to a 12"?
Dual 10"s vs. dual 12"s?
I understand each model has a 2Ohm or a 4Ohm version, so address that if necessary, suggesting a reasonable amp to drive it. BTW, I'm not looking to be heard from miles away at all. I'm looking for some occassional volume & high quality.

Thanks in advance for any input.

If you want high quality, a single 10" should be fine with you. From posts I have seen on car audio boards, Kicker is not one of the more well though of brands of subs. Their square subs are known for being very loud but not very good in the SQ department.

The most well thought of subs right now when it comes to SQ are brands like Arc, JL, Eclipse and ID. Alpine also makes pretty good subs in their Type-R series. I think JL is the only brand that offers preloaded boxes. If you have a drill with a screw bit, then you can easily buy a box and put a sub in it.

As for ohms, what you will see the most are 4-ohm and dual 4-ohm. A d-4 allows you to get twice as much power from your amp. That can be nice because you can always tune down the bass if it is too much but you can't tune it up if it is too little.

So, can this AMP:
Kicker ZX400.1
Mono subwoofer amplifier
200 watts RMS x 1
Kicker ZX400.1

Drive this subwoofer at 400RMS?

Alpine SWR-1242D 12" Type-R Series Subwoofer, Features 4 Ohm + 4 Ohm, a Frequency Response of 24Hz - 500Hz, HAMR Surround, Custom Cast Aluminum Frame.

--12" subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils
--power handling: 200-500 watts RMS

Is this the best configuration to get the most out of the DVC sub?

That should work well. The amp will put out at least 400 watts at 2 oms which will work good with that sub. The next step is to pick a box that is the right size or close. The one thing I recommend is that the box be made of MDF vs. particle board. If you want a really good box, this place makes the best IMO.
