I'm (still) considering the Panasonic Avic-D2, but am concerned about glare when mounted in the top location (replacing the factory head unit). I know the flip-out model is an option, but I prefer the look of a double-din unit.
We have an OEM navi system in our Acura TSX, and while sometimes the sun does cause glare, most of the time it's not an issue. I'm hoping the same is true of the Avic in a Pilot. Any first-hand accounts from Avic owners (or other double-din full-screen units) appreciated! |

I have the AVIC-N1 installed and the screen has an anti-reflective coating on it that helps most of the time. I have only encountered a problem when the sunshade/sunroof is open and the sun is shining in directly. The higher-mount positioning that the flip-out screen has, may render it more susceptible to this problem but I can't be completely sure. The advantage it does have, over the fixed screen on the D2, is that I can change the angle of the screen to compensate for the direct sunlight (still, it only helps a little bit).
We won't see much sun here in NYC til the weekend so if I remember, I will try to get some pics for you if I can duplicate the problem.
Overall, the "Pioneer" ;) AVIC series is an outstanding choice. You should look into the AVIC-Z1 as it has some added features (i.e., harddrive, bluetooth, etc.)
Good luck! :29: |

This is why I chose the area below the HVAC controls. From an ergonomic standpoint, I found it just as easy to use the unit in lower location vs. the top one. |

| Glare is rare on the Avic D series units. Screen does have an anti-glare coating as noted. And with the windshield tint and roof tint, glare from overhead is really not the issue. Only glare I can get is from low sun through the front passenger window. |
