Hi,

I recently purchased a 04 Pilot 4wd with 18k miles on odometer. Could someone tell me when should i take this for a service. I think it has not undergone any service when the car touched 15k mileage. Any help on this would be highly appreciated. I am also looking for a way to update the maps DVD software in the car for the navigation. Can someone help me in this??? Thanks.

If it missed the 15k, then take it right in and get it done using the severe schedule

Actually I'd be suspicious about any car with missed services.

Leads to poor reliability in later life

If you have no service history & plan on keeping it several years, here's what I'd do.
Change eng, trans, rear "diff" oils, & (if needed) air filter. I recommend O.E. trans. & rear diff. (VTM) fluids only.

The owner's manual has the maintenance schedule information you are looking for. However, if you did not get an owner's manual with the Pilot, check here http://www.hondapilot.org/forums/sh...5&pagenumber=12.

If you are following the normal maintance schedule, Honda recommends the following:

Replace engine oil and filter
Replace VTM fluid
Rotate tires
Check tire wear pattern and depth
Check front and rear brake wear
Check parking brake adjustment
Inspect the following
- tie rod ends, steering gearbox, and boots
- suspension components
- driveshaft boots
- brake hoses and lines
- all fluid levels
- exhaust system
- fuel lines and connections

I just had a oil change at the dealer today and all of the inspection items and the parking brake are check as part of the service. The only check/inspect item not included in the service was the front and rear brake wear.

If you do not have an owner's manual, you should be able to find one on Ebay.

Anytime you buy a used car and aren't sure about how well the previous owner serviced it, you should at minimum change all the fluids in the car and make sure your mechanic checks the vehicle over. But, with so few miles, changing fluids and a visual brake check should be all that is necessary. BTW, congratulations!

Just change all the fluids(oil, tranny, vtm-4), air filter & cabin filter.

Thanks to everyone who replied for my posting. Yes, I did take the car to a mechanic for inspection b4 i bought it. Only the 15k intermediate service needs to be done. Which i will get it done asap. Thanks again for all your inputs.

One last question: Do you guys suggest any best place or dealer to fit a DVD player in my pilot. I am in california. Thanks.

California is a big state. Gotta be more specific.
