Does anyone else see this as a potential problem? There is about a 4 inch length of battery negative ground wire that loops down from the negative battery terminal and attaches to the engine. Those of us that live by the ocean in salty climates can expect our engines not to start after a few years of corrosion and exposure to the salty air. This happened to my last car.

If you're worried about the exposed cable length without insulation, any corrosion will likely be superficial and won't affect the electrical properties. Corrosion on the terminals might be a problem, but this can be remedied in ten minutes with a wire brush every few years.
IOW, I don't see anything about this design which is better/worse than others.

Yup, that salt air will get to everything.
Spooge some grease on the cables & attachment points. I used motorcycle chain lube, (there's plenty out in the garage). |

| I wrapped mine with plastic wire loom that matches other wire bundles, and used zip ties at several places to seal the exposed cable. |

| Found this on mine as well. I used a rubber tape (Military Grade) to seal this puppy off. Cant believe they manufacturered these like that. Especially since the ground wire wasnt tinned. |
