Direct connecting an iPod to 2006 EX-L - Click HERE for Original Thread
trun
Just got a 2006 Pilot EX-L and bought the Honda MusicLink option. They tried to install but said there was a conflict with the XM radio.

What's the best way to direct connect my iPod?

It seems silly to have an AUX button on the stereo and not be able to use it.

Thanks

I have the same config and used the USASPEC adapter with the Y-cable. The head unit is pretty dumb about detecting the iPod but a quick cycle through the modes and I'm good to go.

Hmmm, are you telling me that the dedicated "AUX" button on my 2006 EX-L cannot be used to directly tap into my ipod?

What is that input button for if it is not for an external music source?

I have not seen the 06 model head units, but on my 05 its to select the RES as a source so the kids can watch a DVD in the back or play PS2 etc, on the AUX input conectors on the back of the center console.

On the Rear Entertainment System-equipped EX-L, it does indeed have an aux input (composite, R and L Audio) for hooking up a PS2 or Xbox.

Anyone know if the EXl's without RES have the wiring for aux audio burried somewhere under the center just not hooked up?

I have a 06 pilot EX-L with no nav and no res, There is nothing in the back to hook up any external source, I have to buy the USASPEC adapter and it works great with my Ipod.

I have the same Pilot. Just had the SPEC Hon2 installed with the Ycable. Y cable goes into the Satylite connection. The SPEC and Satylite connector go into the Y cable.

On your radio just press the AUX button and your iPod is selected. Operates perfectly!

I have a 06 Pilot EXL with 6 disc in dash changer and XM, no RES, no NAV, I installed the USA Spec PA11 HON2 and used the CAS_HON2Y (splitter), everything works perfectly, Im using the AUX button for the IPOD. I can use the steering buttons and HU buttons to control the IPOD. I didn't encountered any problems at all.

Does anyone with this configuration hear a high-pitched "whirring" or winding noise when you accelerate while the iPod is running but is between songs? I don't hear it at all when music is playing so it doesn't bother me. Just wondering if it's normal.

This noise is caused by the alternator. Unfortunately it's normal....

To get rid of it you would have to make sure the input is grounded (in my Accord for Aux inputs I use a Ground Loop Isolator ~$17 from Radio Shack). Not sure how that can be done with a direct connect Ipod....
