Got the part nuimbers and some places with fairly good prices.

Chrome on SS Bar 30-0000
Black Bar 30-0005
Mounting Kit 30-1255

The best price I found without a sale is fdrom www.coolwheels.com
They were $10 to $20 less than most places.

The very best price I could find was from www.Autoaccessory.com, but it was on sale.
They were $30 less than Coolwheels! (I love sale prices)

I have purchased from Coolwheels before, and other than a shipping delay, was very satisfied.

Just ordered from Autoaccessoy.com and will let everyone know how it goes.

Seems that Westing has released the part numbers, but NOT the parts!
Darn, more waiting!:3:

Its the "," after the link that gets many of them in the URL.

Good catch though - pilot03.

I went to the www.autoaccessory.com website and they don't have the Honda Pilot model selection? When you ordered parts, how do you get to the Pilot's parts?

Seems I still remember how to dial a phone!

Actually a combination of emails and phone calls to both Westin and Autoaccessory.com

I plan to install the Westin Safari Bar w/PIAA lights on my Pilot. I am trying to imagine how it will look (on the Pilot not a Chevy). Does anyone have pictures?
a2Pilot
I'd love to see a picture of the Safari Bar too!:)
killrbeez
I bought the Safari bar last week from Speedworld, here in Queens, NY.

But due to the crappy weather (2'+ of snow and non-stop rain), I haven't been able to install it.

I'm gonna give it a try this weekend and if successful, I'll post pics afterwards.
a2Pilot
Thanks, Killrbeez!

I'm interested to see how it attaches to the Pilot.
Jack
NJay- I see in your signature you have the Safari bar listed as being on your pilot. Do you actually have it? If you do, please post pictures and give a review of the installation process.

Killerbeez- Please post pictures of your installation when you are finished. I am particularly interested in the mounting kit, whether or not any cutting is required to the plastic spoiler.

If anyone knows a link to the installation instructions it would be much appreciated.

I took a quick glance at the installation instructions, and there is cutting of some plastic shielding involved. At least it comes with a paper template.

Once I get home from work, I will try to post the instructions (now, if I can only get that POS scanner to work!)

16 clips later... (Arrows point to attachment points)

killrbeez
Arrows point to the original mounting points.

As you can see, the bracket is sandwiched between the frame and the support bar.
killrbeez
Sorry, no pics of the cutting of splash. Was in a rush to put it together.

with the bracket sticking through. (driver side)

Arrows show attachment points.

This view shows the clearance between the bar and the front license plate.

I guess this is what it would look like if somebody made a Pilot monster truck? :D
killrbeez
Sorry guys, overcast skies killed my lighting.
killrbeez
... I promise!

Overall, the installation was pretty straight forward. There are about 10 - 12 steps (one of which involves test fitting the bar to the bracket.) listed in the instructions. It took about 45 minutes, but most of the time was spent looking for all 16 of those pop-screw-fitting things scattered around under the splash shield. Everytime I thought I had them all, there was one more left.

I had the benefit of a full Honda shop at my disposal for the installation (Thanks for the tools and the lift, Joe!), so that made things alot easier.

While this could be done by a single person, I would definitely recommend finding an extra pair of hands, especially when it comes to mounting the bar to the bracket.

Hope this helps!
killrbeez
One last thing, remember to spray on some lubricant (wd-40, etc..) on the splash guard fasteners. That make them easier to remove.

Killrbeez ... thx for the pics .. the bar looks great .. I plan to install the same bar and add some PIAA lights when the weather gets better ... not real excited about cutting the splash guard though :3:
Jack
Killrbeez, Great Install, thanks for the pix and install thoughts. Not happy about having to cut the splash guard, but it doesn't look to major. Let us know what/if type of lights you plan on mounting up.Thanks again!
sfhondapilot
killrbeez,

do you think the safari bar will fit over the DIO lower trim?
I have the lower trim, but it took a beating when someone backed up into my pilot.
Would like the additional protection a safari bar would add.
The pics appear to provide enuf room to install in front of lower trim, but maybe your contacts at the honda shop would have a better opinion of the feasibility.

Thanks - nice pics - nice result.
a2Pilot
Great pictures Killrbeez! Thank you!

What I really like about the Safari Bar is that it appears to provide some nice protection for that rather fragile lower splash pan. I've crunched mine and broken some clips a couple times, and it looks like the bar will help prevent this type of damage.

This one is definitely on my list!

Jack,
I haven't decided on what lights I want on there. I was searching around and came across these dual-duty lights from IPF. They have both fog and driving lights in the same round enclosure.

IPF J01 lights

sfhondapilot,
I'll have to take some measurements to see if the trim will fit under the light bar.
The next time I'm out at the dealer, I'll sneak around the service area and look for an unattended Pilot w/ trim (with tape measure in hand.)

a2Pilot,
The bar should provide a little protection, but not as much as a real 'bull' bar would. It was fairly light, so I'm sure it's not too strong/thick. I was thinking about adding an additional mounting bracket somewhere to brace the upper portion of the bar (near the license plate.)

I'm also working on a skidplate of sorts for the bottom of the bar (below where the tabs for the lights are). Once that's done, i'll post add'l pics.

In the meantime, I will take a look at my lower trim and post the measurements as an additional reply.

Thanks

Have you looked at the Warner (the winch compaqny) dual lights.
They are built like headlights and use a standatrd H4 bulb ionstead of putting a seperate driving light in the housing.

Killrbeez ... I just looked at the "IPF J01 lights" you plan to install on the Safari Bar - great choice ... if you do so please take pics ...

Geeze, my typing is bad!

killrbeez, the dealer installed lower trim extends about four inches beyond the bumper. How much clearance is there between your westin bar and the bumper? Thanks for your help.

I made some rough measurements, and the bar, at its furthest, is only 3" from the bumper. At the front plate, it's approx 2".

Also, the (somewhat) vertical part of the bar is positioned at the same area where the thickest part of the OEM trim is, so if you had the clearance, you would still have to trim quite a bit off.
:(
sfhondapilot
killrbeez, thanks for the measurements. Oh well - will just have to look for some other option to install.
;)

I ended up going with the PIAA 520 Ion fog lights for the light bar.

They are very VERY bright. I still have to figure out the correct light pattern so I won't piss off anybody in front of me.

Here they are w/o the headlights on:

Here they are with the headlights on:

The lights are actually yellow/blue/green, but they look white in the pic.

Looks great. I've been planning on doing the same set up. (Westin Safari bar and PIAA lights) My question for you is, being a fellow New Yorker how exposed are those lights? Are they a city parking-space away from being replaced?
killrbeez
There is maybe a half inch of space between where the light cover starts and the front edge of the bar, so, for example, if you park up against a brick wall (hey, it could happen), the lights wouldn't touch.
roro
I like that safari bar, but it looks like i'm going to have to have something custom made. I'm looking for something a little wider and that come up towards the hood a little further in chrome.
nkapasi
killrbeez - Do you have instructions on installing the PIAA 520 Ion fog lights ? Is it as difficult to install like the OEM fog lights.

Also, it would really help me if can provide the list of tools that were used to install the Westin Safari bar.
sblvro
:) any plans to put a safari snorkel?
Brian
I installed the Safari bar this weekend, it took me about an hour. You'll need a ratchet set (17mm and 14mm). It would help if you had the same size wrenches, otherwise a good pair of pliers will do the trick. You might want to pick up some extra fasteners from Honda. I broke a couple removing them. Westin provides you with extras, but they where a little to wide. Good luck.
killrbeez
I will see if I still have the instructions at home. It's been a while since I installed the lights, so i'm not sure if i still have them.

From what I remember, all you needed was a 10mm socket (not 100% sure on the size) and maybe a drill of some sort to help mount the switch (i put it in the free slot where the oem foglight switch goes).

Has anyone ever ordered from this site?

I'm considering ordering the Westin Safari Bar from them. Seems like a pretty decent deal.

Westin has a list of websites you can order from, but $115 sounds pretty good.
