I am new to the forum and am completely frustrated in my search for an interface from my iPod (4G) to my 2006 EX-L WITHOUT Navi and WITHOUT RES.
Any help would be appreciated.
Is it possible to get an interface that will allow me control through the stereo and steering wheel WHILE KEEPING functionality of my CD changer and XM?
Help?!?!?!?! LOL
Is the Honda music link worth getting? The dealer and honda both say that it WILL work with a base EXL that does NOT have either DVD or Navi. |

Current Recommendations...
USA Spec - PA11-HON2
-- I believe this has some steering wheel controls of the Ipod. All other functions of the controls remain intact.
Blitzsafe - HON/M-Link1 V.2X
-- Only has Volume Control from the steering wheel. All of ther functions of the controls remain intact.
Dension - I20 Honda R3 ice>Link Plus

Heard lots of people complaining about the Honda Music Link... |

From what I have read here, the USA Spec *appears* be the most likely to work on my 2006 EXL W/O navi and RES.
However, does it allow me continued use of my XM and CD changer?
I can't get a straight answer from anyone associated with Honda whether or not MusicLink will work with my model, let alone what it will do. Very disappointing. |

| I should mention that both the XM and CD changer are BOTH factory installed. The changer is the in-dash type. |

The usual challenge has been to get the Ipod Integration w/ NAV or RES. I believe without these, the task is relatively easy.
And, yes, the USASPEC one will work and retain XM and Changer Functions. All the ones mentioned do as does the Honda Musiclink. |

Just got off the phone with a couple of the local dealers.
They say that their documentation says that the MusicLink will NOT work on an EXL with facrtory XM.
Ugh...    |

| I talked with the service guy at my local Honda and he said the IPOD plays through the AUX button. I have an 06 EX-L also. |

I've got on order the PA11-HON2 and the CAS-HON2Y cable from USA-SPEC. I'll report back on whether they work or not. Note, I do have RES.
From the looks of it, the XM and an external changer are on the same bus, but must daisy chain. In order to maintain function of all devices, you must daisy chain the XM with the PA11-HON2 using the CAS-HON2Y cable. At that point, the iPod is treated like an external changer. The RES does not appear to be on the same bus, however. It is its own thing. |

I am going to add this in case anyone is interested:
I became frustrated at the solutions available (there still were a lot of questions in my mind) so I purchased the Kensignton FM Transmitter after reading favorable reviews.
Here is the link to the product: Kensington link
I know - FMs are junk but this one seems to work pretty well (I didn't want to go cassete b/c of the wires). The Kensington one charges the Ipod and so far I am getting no static. Best of all for me, I can switch it between my MDX and my Pilot and there is absolutely zero installation cost or time. I had it working in 30 seconds. I can keep it hidden in the center console or put it under the radio. I control volume via steering controls but you must change tracks via the ipod. For me, it's better sound than the radio.
It's probably not for everyone and certainly not ideal if you spend a ton of time in the car but for me it was relatively cheap, very easy and portable. I may end up with a hardwire solution in the future but I just could not pull the trigger right now. I will try to comment further after I take a few long trips (ordinarily a weakness of the FM ones as you need to switch stations). |
