| I'll watch a little. I really enjoy playing but haven't watched a lot lately. I hope the US can advance out of the first round but it sounds like they'll have some tough competition to overcome. |

| I am just glad that I am not near a major venue for the traffic concerns. I do get a kick out of the signs along the autobahn (in German and English), that the World Cup is a time "for new friendships"....trying to cut down on the hooliganism I guess..... |

| 0-3 loss.... thats a spanking!!! :3:  |

Yeah, they didn't even show up for that game. They really needed to at least tie that one. The loss means that the MUST beat Italy Saturday. A loss or even a tie would make it impossible to advance.
Really a poor game Monday. Quite disappointing. |

"Every job I've been, when I've left them, I've left a better team and organization," said Arena, who led the University of Virginia to five NCAA titles and D.C. United to a pair of MLS championships. "Certainly there have been great moments, from the World Cups to winning Gold Cups to winning big games along the way. It's all been, I think, milestones. So, yeah, there's a lot I'm proud of."

I didn't realize until now that it was 5 National Championships at UVA. Then his ship came in, and then in sank to the bottom.

A lot of people move up to that next level and fail to suceed. In business it's called the Peter Principle in coaching it's called ego.
Steve Spurrier had the ego to move to the pros but he also had the smarts to bail out and return to what he was really good at. |

Predicting a Portugal v West Germany Final
Both my teams (USA and England) have gone home.
USA's loss is New England Revolution's gain. Clint Dempsey was on fire last night against Red Bull NY. One of the best games I've seen in a while |

I'm going with Italy and France in the final.
Germany is my team (along with USA), but I'm thinking that Italy has it together this WC.
Clint was on fire vs the Red Bulls, great game. |

Germany is my choice to win it all,but I was with Ghana to make it into the semi's.The refs made a lot of bad calls, this was the year of the yellow cards |

This is definetly the year of the yellow card. I think that the match with 18 cards was evidence. One could say that the crackdown on Diving is just one part of the new influx of cards, but I suspect it's just the ref's calling a tighter game.
Germany was my hope to win it all, but my "Women's" intuition, told me Italy and France, both teams are really playing stong. If I had to predict a winner, I'd go with Italy, but France as a personal favorite.
Sunday is the show down. |

"VITTORIE DELL'ITALIA"
OK, I gotta admit I watched the Final. After almost falling asleep in the middle the excitment of the overtime periods, the shootout at the end and the celebration afterward made for a great game. |

Two hours of running around for nothing; what's worse, me getting suckered into watching it. Well, so much for my tri-annual reminder of why I have no interest in soccer.
And at least the French didn't win. |
