I'm new to the forum and am very impressed by the content and 'culture' of this site. My wife and I have owned an '05 EXL (no Navi or RES) for 15 months and absolutely love it. We've agreed that we need to add DVD entertainment for our 2-year old daughter, though, so I bought a dual-headrest setup last weekend for 1/2 price.
I'll probably pay an A/V installer to do the headrest monitors (a bit beyond my ability), but I've installed 20-30 head units before and would like to install this DVD unit myself. It's a single-DIN unit that also plays MP3, so I'm ready and willing to remove the factory 6-disc in-dash CD changer. I believe the PIE HON98-AUX adapter would allow me to connect the DVD/MP3 player to my factory head unit, in place of the CD changer. Has anyone else done something similar to this? If so, could you share some pics of your single-DIN aftermarket unit? I haven't yet measured to verify that the DVD unit will be a good fit for the CD changer opening, so perhaps I'm getting a bit ahead of myself.
I welcome any suggestions for this installation. Thanks! |

Welcome to hp.org! There have been past threads dealing with this type of install. The problem for most DIYers is that the aftermarket kit companies (Metra, Scoshce, Best Kits) do not make a single DIN install kit for the Pilot. The opening for your CD changer is larger than a standard DIN. The closest trim ring available is the Honda DVD DIN Bezel Kit (P/N 08B23-S9V-100A). Unfortunately this still leaves a gap on the sides.
Your options are to use the Honda DIN bezel and fill in the sides with a compound designed for plastic repair (Duramix 4040, FiberTech). This is labor intensive since there is sanding and painting involved. However this should be easy for a custom installer. The other option is have a trim ring made from ABS plastic or MDF. MDF can be shaped easily to replicate the slight curvature of the dash. ABS plastic can be bent with heat to achieve a similar result. MDF will require a finsihing step while ABS plastic won't as long as your happy with the color match and texture. |

| Can I ask which headrest monitors you got? I'm looking to do a similar thing. |
