| So I just read on all of the news sites that the U.S. has activated its missle defense system to attempt to thwart any test missle launches from N. Korea. Is this the same "Star Wars" program that they tested years ago that never worked right? |

I am sure it has been improved many times over since all these years...
N. Korea will not have the balls to fire a missile over here ...or for that matter over any country... (japan, S. Korea etc.)... |

| I thought that I read that it wouldn't matter where it was pointed at, if anything; however they are planning on testing it I believe it says we would attempt to stop it. |

The Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) never made it to practical use, lots of research and tests but no implementation.
I think they are referring to current missile intercept technology like the Patriot and others that do have reasonable effectiveness when launched from land or sea.
I think in the big picture if we are going to launch a missile intercept we better be sure that 1. It will work, because a failure would let N.Korea know they can continue their build up and 2. It should be used against a true offensive action, not a test.
Glad I'm not in politics... |

| Point being another bazillion dollars spent on something that works 50% of the time, if it is having a good day. |

Hmmm, and your suggestion?
No defense?
Maybe the problem is really hard to solve, and it takes this kind of effort and expense to get to 50%? |

like all research I think it is expensive... just like NASA or any other defense system... and being under govt control there is obviously wastage.. |

Point being?
For criminy sakes, N_Jay!
The thread was about missile defense.
The question of our current missile defense was brought up.
I posted a link about the current state of our missile defense, as an informative and unopinionated response to the question at hand.
That's it.
No point, just relevant information to the topic at hand.
Stop trying to pick a fight. |

"Intelligence agencies, navies and air forces from at least 13 nations are quietly co-operating in a “secret war” against Pyongyang and Tehran.
It has so far involved interceptions of North Korean ships at sea, US agents prowling the waterfronts in Taiwan, multinational naval and air surveillance missions out of Singapore, investigators poring over the books of dubious banks in the former Portuguese colony of Macau and a fleet of planes and ships eavesdropping on the “hermit kingdom” in the waters north of Japan."
“Diplomacy alone has not worked, military action is not on the table and so you’ll see a persistent increase in this kind of pressure,” said a senior western official
