Trailer requirements for 2006 2WD - Click HERE for Original Thread
Herleman
I have a 2006 Pilot EX 2WD.

The specs allow for a 3500 lb trailer capacity, but an upgraded transmission oil cooler and power steerign cooler are also required.

Are the cooler requirements still necessary if pulling a trailer that is well below the 3500 lb limit. I intend to pull a small utilty trailer which contains my motorcycle (also Honda, thank you very much). The total package weighs just over 1000 pounds with 100 lbs on the hitch.

Does anuone know if I can safely pull this small trailer without changing the original coolers?

I haven't even purchased my Pilot yet, but I've been reading trailer towing threads for several weeks. Try a search--there are several.

A brief Summary:

Opinions differ, although some seem to indicate that Honda will not honor a warranty without the extra goodies. The enterprising have suggested you could say you had a "hitch mounted bike rack" only to avoid the trouble.

While the votes are split, a fair amount seemed to indicate occasional short towing of small amounts probably won't burn anything up.

It seems that you have to be careful towing that the transmission doesn't continually up/down shift because that is what creates most of your heat.

Here's a link to a bunch of threads on towing.
