| I purchased my Airlift 1000 from Summit racing about 1 month ago. I installed them myself. The hard part is drilling the 3/4 inch hole in the lower A-frame, I used a unibit that I got from my work. Last year I took a vacation trip from Tulsa, OK. to Gulf Shores AL., had 6 people in the car plus luggage. Some of the luggage was in a rear carrier that mounted in the hitch receiver. The negative camber was so bad that it wore the tread off of the inside of the tire. I love Honda's, own 4 at this time, but I believe the the Pilot, Ridgeline and the Odyssey should have a straight axle on the rear. |

Also you can go to this web site http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/
It's an online parts break down, the part numbers are the same for the 04 and 06 rear shock and spring area. |

I will also be putting in an Airlift in my 06 Pilot. Intructions indicated you can run both airlines together using the "T" or run two separate air lines. In speaking with an Airlift rep they indicated that unless the vehicle is loaded with uneven weight from side to side, running the air lines together using the "T" will work fine.
Just wondering if anyone who uses the Airlft in their Pilot has experience with installing the air lines connected or separated and the pros and cons of doing it either way.
Thanks! |

When you get the kit it will come with the parts to go either way. I seperated the two because when I cut off the rubber stopper thing one was a little longer than the othe, also I was told that if you a load and turned a corner that air would go from one bag to the other. I mounted the fill valves on the drivers side of the trailer hitch about 1" apart so I didn't have to go from side to side to fill. Saved my tires on this years vacation.
P.S. I noticed that AnythingAuto.com has them for $75.95 with free shipping! |

| I've never heard of this thing. What is the main impetus to install it? Looks like it would be mostly for towing...? |

| Yes towing is one reason, my reason is for vacation. We loaded 6 adults plus luggage (some in the back and some in a basket type carrier in the receiver hitch) The rear tires have such a bad negitive camber that on a 1,500 mile trip it will wear the tread pretty bad on the inside of the tires. I think Honda has a problem with this. The next time you see a Honda Accord with 4 adults and your driving beside it, compare the camber of the front tires to the rear. The problem don't stop with the Pilot the van has the same problem. I own 4 Honda's and have a friend that is a mechanic we inspected the pilot and found no camber adjustment. So if you ever overload your Pilot and the springs won't restore the factory ride height, to bad. |

I just installed the bags on my 03 Pilot.
Of course I picked the hottest day of the year Saturday July 21 to do it! 112 in suburban Los Angeles !!!
Whew!
And yes the 1 hour job was a 5 hour job for me. No leaks ! Yet!
Without a hoist I used jacks and jackstands.
I went with seperate lines.
I used a unibit to hog out the holes to 3/4 inch and mounted the fillers to the left of the gas fill just as someone here also did.
I have not yet towed but I am looking forward to it on our boat towing vacation to Lake Nacimiento in central California.
Next I'll add the MDX rear body to frame braces..... Stay tuned I'll give a report. |

| I started to mount the fill valves by the gas cap but ended up with them on the hitch, a little unhandy. How hard was it to get the lines inside by the gas cap. |

1 Remove the mud guard from the rear driver's side fender.
2. Remove the inner fender (plastic inner fender. There are 2 locking plastic caps that I broke off. The rest of the mounts are hex-head bolts.
3. Drill along the side of the gas cap.
Feel with your hands in the back so you know where you're drilling.
Stay close to the cap so you can fit your air gauge in there and then of course the air nozzle from the gas station.
4.I USED A BATTERY DRILL AS IT DID NOT SPARK LIKE MY ELECTRIC ! And taped the gas fill so as to get no shavings in there while drilling.
5. Route the tubing so it dosen't get pinched or burned from exhaust
6. Re-install inner fender and mud guard.
Not that hard It just takes some time with jack stands and all...
I towed our 4000 lb boat and trailer and filled to the max 35 PSI. This worked well. We will have our big trip to Lake Nacimiento next week and this will be the real test.... Towing through the mountains on a hot day with maximum allowable Pilot towing weight!
Stay tuned! |
