Hi all, new to the forum and first time post here. Sorry to say its for a minor problem. I picked up my Pilot on 6/1 and absolutely love this truck! Its great for hauling around the wife and our three little ones and sure beats driving a mini van. Anyway the other day my wife was out and went to load some groceries in the back however she couldn't get the tailgate to open. When I got home from work I tried it as well to no avail. It sounds like the lock is engaging and disengaging but when I try the handle to open it seems like its just missing, kinda making a clicking sound. I'm curious if anyone else experienced this with the '06 Pilot or if this may be a one-off issue.
I'm going to make the call to the dealer tomorrow as I'm sure its just a matter of a small adjustment. Any information is appreciated. |

| Are you able to open the passenger and rear doors? Make sure to push the "open" on the key fob twice so it unlocks ALL the doors. I'm sure you've done this, but I like to state the obvious. :D |

Hi humanoid, thanks for the response. Yes all other doors open fine and without issue. The tailgate did work fine up until the other day. Before it stopped working, I had'nt noticed anything unusual or difficult in opening the tailgate. I checked the back panel on the tailgate from the inside and saw a rubber plug which gives access to the locking mechanism and verified the lock was engaging and disengaging when using the key remote.
I'll be making a call to the dealer today to see if they can take a look at it on my lunch hour since the dealer is closer to work then my house (25 miles). Most likely seems to be an adjustment. (I hope) |

It happened to my 03 Pilot at the 1st winter, the lock was frozen, although it was in the garage in Canada Toronto.
It happened a few times during the 1st year, I would think in your case, the lock mechanism was stuck by misaligment or something.
Just want to say it happened on my 03. |

Sorry for the late post, but here's the end result. After bringing it to the dealer they had to replace the tailgate/hatch support, tailgate lock and the power door lock actuator.
Been fine for the last 2 weeks. Should have tried milking some freebies out of them.:2: |

| The tailgate on my 06 won't open. This happened after the nasty winter storm last Valentine's day. I left my Pilot outside the entire day and I guess the locking mechanism froze. Anyone else had this issue? I am hoping it's just the cold weather and not a defective locking mechanism. |

I was going to suggest you wait for it to thaw, but Valentines day was three days ago.
So unless it hasn't got above freezing yet, you probably need to visit the Dealer for a warranty service. |
