Took the new Pilot on it's maiden vacation voyage last week, only 600 miles on the vehicle at the start of vacation. Oklahoma to Colorado for a total of 1,900 miles (approx 400 in the mountains).
Average gas mileage = 23.86 mpg. Had to double check the numbers, was expecting less.
Overall, very impressed with the power and ride comfort. Would not be my first choice for driving winding mountain roads, but still performed great.
All in all, have had the Pilot for a month and am very impressed. Definately made a good choice. |

| The Pilot is a most impressive vehicle in the mileage department. Over the last year my best milage was 24.86 and my worst was 17.08, my average from July 17,05 to July 17,06 was 19.54. |

I'm curious... how do you guys determine your Pilot's gas mileage? It seems like you guys get pretty accurate with it.
Here's how I've always determined mine:
Total miles driven/Fuel tank capacity |

Miles driven since last fill-up, from fill-up to fill-up. Divide miles driven by number of gallons in next fill. |

Basically, start with a full tank. Take the miles driven and divide by the # of gallons at the next fill up. It is most accurate when you fill up at the same pump ( in the case of a long trip the first and last fill-up at the same pump).
I keep mine in an excel spreadsheet and generally do a monthly calculation. |

I use the web site www.jacksonvillegasprices.com . ( I'm sure you can find a similar site near you. ( try www.gasbuddy.com ) They have a fuel logbook that makes the calculations. Each time I fill up I enter the station, price per gallon, gallons purchased and odometer miles and it does the rest. |

I keep track using the above mentioned method. Track the mileage of the gas used between fillups. I just created a simple spreadsheet (using http://spreadsheets.google.com) on Google Spreadsheets so its available online.
Here's where i'm at.
code:
Date Gallons Cost* Distance MPG* CPM*
6/4/2006 16.9 $49.52 370 21.89 $0.13
6/11/2006 12.38 $37.14 248 20.03 $0.15
6/13/2006 18.05 $54.13 343 19.00 $0.16
6/21/2006 17.034 $50.06 310.8 18.25 $0.16
6/27/2006 14.769 $44.00 322.7 21.85 $0.14

| I just got back from our first road trip...a short one, about 360 miles round trip to Lake Tahoe. Started at sea level, went up to 7,000+ ft in altitude, then back down to tahoe, then back home. I got 22.23 mpg. It was about 80% highway and about half of it was between 55-65mph (a lot of highway 50 is 55mph). Before the trip, I was about 50-50 with highway/city driving and got around 16.5 mpg. Tomorrow we leave for Carmel, let's see how that trip goes. |

| I'm doing a roundtrip from Boston to Toronto in August. We'll see how that goes. 400 or so miles each way. |
