XM Renewal at $77...gone? - Click HERE for Original Thread
vida
Well it looks like the $77 for 1 year deal is gone. My trial expired so I called and asked if they had any deals and they did not (only on additional receivers). So either you have to ask for the $77 deal or it expired. Bummer. I didn't renew at $12+ per month. Has anyone received a good deal lately?
Medic721
I called up 3 weeks ago, when I went through the voice prompts I picked all of the options that said I did not plan on renewing. When I reached a live operator I asked him if the $77/year deal was available he said it was. might just have to call again and try a different operator.

-Mike.
vida
Well, I took the advice and just asked about it directly ($77 offer). They asked if I got a mailer and I said, "Yup". $82 with the tax and I'm off and running. I was reminded this morning how crappy the morning shows are in this area.
Thanks for the help
msmclean
Does anyone know if there is a promotional code number you have to mention to get the $77/deal ? My trial just expired and I would prob renew for that price. Thanks.:D
Medic721
They did not ask for any promo code, just the radio ID. I believe those that received the card said their radio id was the same as the code.

No promotion code & if they say the $77 deal does not exist, tell them you would like to speak with there supervisor.. I had to go to the 3rd level...of supervisor, until they gave me the deal... just keep insisting that your on a Honda web site with 100's of owners who received this deal... eventually they will give in...

Glad I logged on tonight and saw this post because my XM trial is about to end and I called this a.m. They wanted to give me a "Roadie" (whatever that is?) for an additional $9.95 ($80 value). When I asked if they would just knock the $80 off the subscription price , it was no go.
I like the $77 price for the one year subscription much better than the standard price they quote. I guess its just like the value of anything else in this world, its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'll call em back tomorrow and "negotiate". Thanks, guys!!!

Just call and tell them you got a card in the mailing about 1 year at $77 and you'd be interested in that. If they grill you about the detail of the mailing, just say you threw it away but you do remember it reading $77 for 1 year. I called back and got it 5 minutes after I was told there were no specials. I'm guessing they don't like to give out that deal but they will do it. And don't be afraid to call back a bit later and try a different operator. Good luck.
msmclean
Appears the $77/yr deal is a customer "winback" promotion to get old customers back after they had an increase. I had to call a special number(800-321-7117) to get the deal but they did so politely and gamefully. The flyer that came to me was a renewal for $154.20 so thanks "hondapilot forum" for getting me a half price deal !!:2:
los507
Thanks for this!!
I called the number above and it routed me right to a person that new exactly why I was calling. A great deal for $77. No hassles or upsells.
jmeitz
i got it as well 1st time calling.

thanks
sbaby
I have called three times (including the number posted above) and I was told that I needed a promotion code from a postcard in order to get the $77 a year offer.

Any suggestions?
jmeitz
when i called i just told them i wanted to take advantage of the 77 a year subscription. all they asked for was my xm number. super nice girl, didnt question me at all.
mmmmark
Does a person dare call if their subscription just STARTED? I figure by the time 3 months is up, the $77 deal will be a distant memory.
Medic721
I called one month in to my trial and asked that question... I have the $77 deal and was advised that it would begin when my trial ended.

Just to be clear, they let you renew early and it started after the trial ended, right?

Did they charge you right away or at the trial's end?
Medic721
btw the promotion code on those that recieved the offer was just your radio code. or you could do like most and tell them you lost the card.
-mike.
sbaby
I tried telling them I lost the card and they said they couldn't help me without the code. They said that only select people were sent the promotion cards and they couldn't help me.

I have talked to three different people and they are all telling me the same thing.

I will try telling them my radio code as the promotion code next. This is so frustrating.

Give them your radio code. If they still need info off the card act like you're looking for it. They'll probably get bored and give it to you because they get sick of waiting.
sbaby
I gave them my radio code and it worked! They did have the wrong name under the radio ID though but we are all straight now.

Thanks everyone. This forum is great.

I'm pissed at XM right now. I called them to update some credit card information. At the end of the call the woman asked me if I would be interested in purchasing an extra unit and 6 months of service for $50. I told her "no."

Next day I get an email thanking me for my purchase and listed shipping information. I was charged $50 on my card and when I called to find out what was going on, I was informed that they need to "research" my dispute and that they would have to go back through the recordings to verify that I said no to the request. I asked for an address to return the equipment and was informed that there are no refunds - which is why they need to do the "research."

I called my bank and disputed the charge.

Okay, what exactly is my "Radio ID"??? I called and gave them the number I had recorded (the same # I have registered at Owner Link and the same # that appears on my "Anti-Theft Radio Identification Card" I received from my dealer. It is entirely numeric and looks like this on the card (although different numbers of course):

12345
12345678

They were unable to find my account using either of those numbers and told me it should be an 8-digit alpha-numeric code. So, they asked for my phone number to look up the account... no dice. They then asked for my name to look up the account. That finally worked! They then read me the 8-digit alpha-numeric code they had on my account and told me to reference it in the future for faster account access. How was this code delivered to me when I purchased my Pilot a few months ago, and how is it different from the code above that is printed on my "Anti-Theft Radio Identification Card"?

Tune to XM channel 0, one down from the preview channel. Your ID will be something like ABCD12EE, a combination of 8 letters and numbers, and is displayed on channel 0. The dealer obviously notified XM somehow that you were the owner of that XM Radio ID.
787_Pilot
My free 3 mo. trial period recently ended (only the XM Preview channel worked at this point) so I called the 800-321-7117 number mentioned earlier in this thread. It worked for me the first time! No negotiating required on my part or upsell pitch from the agent - nada. Just tell them you'd like to take advantage of the $77 year renewal promotion you received in the mail then provide them with your XM Radio ID# (found on channel 0).

You'll then have the option of either giving them your credit card number or just ask them to bill you.

Good luck!

Ouch. If you have been a good bank customer, they should handle all the disputation for you and get that money back to you. I had a similar thing happen to me before and I just let my bank handle it. Those people can be ruthless.

Also, thanks for the tips on this $77 stuff. I was really going back and forth on this whole XM thing. The lack of NFL and Big 12 was putting me off but for $77, I think I'll just go right ahead.

Thanks for the heads up! I called XM on Monday to renew my subscription (which doesn't end until late September 2006). Told them about the $77/year offer that "I received in the mail."

*Wink, wink*

Worked like a charm. The $77 deal is alive and well! Thanks, again!!!
gdg76
I just tried calling and getting it- CSR said that offer was only for paying customers.

To me, XM isn't worth the hassle of trying to get another CSR. It would be worth it at $77 but not worth much of an effort.

I'll try again once the three months is up but if not, no big deal...
dj5
no problem here.

I called last Friday and told them I was interested in the $77 "Winback" offer. Gave them my XM radio code and credit card number. The XM is now back on in my wife's Pilot.

Has anyone else heard advertisements on XM? I was listening to Channel 11 the other day and they had 3 in a row. I don't think I'm going to renew and pay $12.95 per month to listen to advertisements. I can do that for free on the regular radio.
mmmmark
It's just like PBS saying they don't do ads, but they have ads all the time--for PBS.

They just want to remind you that you are listening to XM--and not Sirius. Their brand is the only thing they have, so they have to promote it. I've heard it a few times, but not enough to annoy me.

The music channels programmed by XM are commercial-free, and the talk etc. channels all have advertising. Channel 11 is listed as a "regional news and talk" channel, so you'll have commercials.

My channel 11 is the Nashville station and plays country music. I also listened to channel 24 yesterday, which is 'Sunny' a music channel. They had advertisements, one of them 'Focus Factor'.

I don't think I'm going to continue to pay for that crap.

Go to xmradio.com, and look at the channel lineup and you'll see that both channels are listed as "regional news and talk." I don't disagree necessarily with your sentiment, but XM does have commercial-free music channels.

Clear Channel has an ownership interest in XM, and I think they program the two channels you are listening to.

And the XM lineup is the same for all US XM listeners, so your channel 11 and mine are the same, btw.

I received a comeback offer from XM yesterday:
60% off for 3 months
50% off for both 6 and 12 months
800-643-6031
This offer good until 30 August 06 as stated on the postcard. I signed back up today with no problems. The activation fee was waived.

I heard on the news yesterday that XM and Sirius are both having financial problems. Both posted big losses. I guess both will have some good deals to try to get more listeners.

What were the actual money figures? Just curious what numbers they start with before the 50 and 60%. Is it their "full" price or their discount price?
jrinjax
I renewed my subscription, recently, for a year, while wondering if they would stay in business that long. I guess I will find out the "hard way".

I also sent them a complaint about their 60's music channel, channel #6.
My complaint was that in between each song, there was several minutes of talk and self-promotion. I asked them if the "wasted time" was just "masking" the commercials or, were they cutting down on the music royalties [ASCAP/BMI] by playing less music.
They never responded.....

There do seem to be Gaps in the programming that seem to be Masking/substituting for commercials.

50% and 60% off their regular price of $12+

My 6-month subscription comes to ~ $38 with tax. The one-year deal comes to just over $77...I'm not sure if that is the same deal as others have previously been referring to.
bluemason
Now does this include XM radio on cell phones/ I just picked up the Samsung A950 and I have two free months of XM Radio.. I'd pay $77 considering in .ca they want $15/month... $180 a year.. if I can save $100..........:4:

Oh yeah. I also wrote to XM last week as I am considering getting another portable XM radio for the car/office and asked if they would come around and offer a deal similar to Sirius' $499 Lifetime membership - they told me that they are not offering it at this time. Who knows what the future will hold, but if I were a betn' man, I'd say that Satellite Radio is here to stay, they just have to get more reasonable in their pricing and prices for the portables.

Saw an article today that mentioned the "possible merger" of Sirius and XM.

My company provides the satellite earth station antennas and tracking systems for Sirius.

XM and Sirius are essentially duplicative systems. They basically cover the same area and do the same thing. Neither one gains much by buying the other. All they could do would be to differentiate each and provide different programming. Technically, they work similarly, but are far from identical and cannot be used as redundant backup for each other. So a merger from a technical standpoint makes no sense.

From a business standpoint, it just puts all the eggs in one basket, but I bet the FCC would let it happen.

Who knows. Let em fight--that keeps the costs down for us!
:D
deparson
We signed up for 5 years of XM just before they increased their rates so we got the old rate plus ~30% off that or so for pre-paying for 5 years.

They actually send sent out email suggesting people do this if they know they want XM long term. From there, we can add additional units at the regular discounted rate up to five total. We are at a total of 4 :)

Also, you can switch radios anytime so you are not locked into one unit for 5 years and if you want to cancel you can do so and they will give you a pro-rated refund of any months you have not used.

All in all a very good deal for the hard core XM subscriber. Of course, if they go out of business we are SOL but it is a rather minor risk, IMO.

The cost of the equipment, plus $6.99 a month on the "family plan." You can get a plug-play receiver for $50-150. I like the Audiovox Xpress, with its small size, but large 6-line display.

Yea baby! Still alive and kicking!!

1 year $77 XM subscription still valid. Called today. No extra questions asked from the CSR, just radio ID and credit card number. I would've let the XM 3 month promo expire before I pay $150+. But for half price, I'll enjoy the NHL hockey one more year!

Anyone know if getting a subscription during the trial period will extend the end of the trial or just replace the trial? In other words, if I get 12 months today, will I get 12 months, or 15 months?
deezee123
You will get 15 months. I called to renew at the $77 rate I learned about here, and was told that they wouldn't do the actual renewal until the end of the trial.

I was concerned that they would just charge me the regular rate, but I was assured that my requested renewal at the discount rate was uin their computer and that my card would be charged $77 on the date the trial ends. I'll be keeping an eye on it for sure! :)
tim.s
Yep a one year fee of $77 starting after the three month trial ends.

I signed up fairly easy tonight (using the info posted above). But when I said I wanted to subscribe to the "$77 per year plan", the CSR had to transfer me to "someone who can help you with that special price". The first CSR could only offer the $150/year rate.

The second CSR set me up with the $77/year plan, but it took a few minutes and a lot of typing.

I'm guessing that they are still allowing the $77/year rate for a while since the advertising just ended. In a month or two, they might stop allowing it. If you are planning to sign up after your 3 month trial, I suggest doing it now
dahogs
Just renewed at $77.00 for one year with no questions asked. However, it was explained to me that after the one year deal expires and "to avoid interruption in service" my card will automatically be charged the regular one year subscription fee.

Also, as already stated in previous posts my credit card will not be charged until September 13th which is the day my free 3 month trial expires.
mmmmark
No hassle at all. I'm only one month in and I called 800-321-7117 and they were eager to say yes when I asked about the $77 renewal!

I had them charge my card immediately. That way they do not keep the number on file so they HAVE to notify me before the pull any automagic renewal shennanigans on me.

Taking a trip this weekend--looking forward to the listening to XM.

But XM will still have your CC number on file. Not something I wanted them to have so I asked them to bill me instead and I sent them a check a few weeks later for $79 (there was a $2 "processing fee" for this option).

It is not gone... The call couldn't have gone any smoother... I called and told her that I was calling on the offer card I received, she said sure no problem. I gave her the radio code - she asked what card I would like to put it on and I said OH, i am at work and don't have my wallet, I asked can you bill me - and she said yes.. She was one of the friendliest people I have ever talked to on the phone.. She even told me that my freebie doesn't expire until November 7th so the new subscription won't start until then... I AM SO HAPPY :2: :2: :2: :2: :2: :2:

That is definitely different than they told me. She said that if I paid right now, that the payment would be received but the card would not be kept on file.

If, however, she continued, I had them charge my card when my trial ran out (Nov. 1), THEN they would have to keep my card on file and they would then autobill me the next time it was renewed, UNLESS I opted out.

Do you HAVE to leave it on channel #1 after subscribing to get the channel updates? I just activated a 2nd XM radio in my Mazda, but I just noticed now, a week later, whenever I tune to channels 22 & 23 for instance, it just reads "Updating". My wife has a 30 minute drive to and from work each day, and has been listening to XM the entire week, however she hasn't been leaving it tuned to channel #1. Shouldn't the channels have updated by now, even though she hasn't been tuned to channel #1?

I don't know if it's absolutely required to leave it on channel 1, but you can manage your account online (if you have a Windows system and run Internet Explorer) and send a refresh signal to your radio, or you can call Listener Care and have them send a refresh signal. Just to be safe, have the radio on channel 1 when you request the refresh signal.

Can you tune Sirius in on an XM radio ? (sincere question, I'm new to satellite radio) My '06 EX-L w/ RES came (8/31) with XM radio installed and a 3 month trial subscription -- so I called last Friday and also got the $77 a year deal for just the one year (regular rate past that). It'll start 12/1/06 after the trial expires.

I assume most people are getting XM because that's what their Hondas come equipped for. Not all trim lines come with it I think.

No, but don't worry Sirius has far too much debt to survive so I predict the two will consolidate in a year or so. In any case, XM is better.

I called and got it today. No problem. Just called the toll-free number given in this thread and told the customer service rep that I was calling to accept the offer of $77 per year. He said "Awesome! I just need your radio code and a credit card number." I told him I did not want to have automatic renewal at the end of the year, and he said he could put in the charge today and add 12 months to the balance of my three-month trial subscription, and that I would not be on automatic renewal. I am now paid up through November 15, 2007. Such a deal!
Kalbo607
Deal is still good, I called said I want the $77 renewal and had no problem. Told them to send me the bill so I didn't have to give my credit card #.

Thanks to all who posted their dealings with XM.

I also called 800-321-7117 and requested the $77 renewal offer, and it was granted with no questions other than radio code, name, and phone number.

When I mentioned that I was still in my 3 month trial period, the representative said that they would therefore send me an invoice so I could pay in the manner of my choosing. There was no mention of a $2 fee, nor did I request the invoice option. She also said that my service would not be interrupted, even though my trial ends 9/30 (the card I received said 9/28, but 3 months would really be 10/10).

I was satisfied - total time was under 5 minutes. I didn't plan on renewing, and wouldn't have at the "list price", but given the lack of local programming (how can I only get one country station in Iowa?), I decided it was worth 22 cents a day.

XM will add the $2 processing fee to the $77 annual price (total $79) if you choose to pay by check. No $2 fee if you pay by credit card. This will be specified on the invoice that XM will send you. I didn't mind paying it because I didn't want to give XM my credit card number.

Actually, it looks like they will add $2 to any FUTURE invoices if I pay the first one by check. I haven't decided how I'll pay, but from what was said I thought I'd have to pay $2 now if I wanted to get an invoice as opposed to providing a CC # over the phone. The rep didn't ask for a CC # once I said I was in my free trial period.

Just renewed our's. They wanted a savings code for the $77, but I just told them I had left the letter at home. No biggie. I didn't request an invoice, just set it up to be paid on December 1.

If anyone else is trying to take advantage of this, they may need to get the code from someone else. Not sure if the code is account specific, or general...

I tried renewing ours yesterday and the guy insited on the promotion code. Told him I'd left it at home and he kindly suggested I call back when I was at home!
I'll try again later - and if they ask, I'll try what was posted here before: that the promotion code matches your radio ID.

I recall at some point people said the promotion code was ZWINBACK. That may or may not be current (or correct), but it might be worth a try if you can't find anything else.

I never renewed after my trial... about 3 months later, I got an offer for $60/year ($5/month).

I obviously declined and decided to stick with Sirius Satelite. Much better programming.
msavold
I originally got someone that insisted on the promotion code. Called last night and got the renewal without promo code but... was told that "the new policy is that credit card payment is required" for the $77 ofer.
I'll deal with any card issues later... my card expires before the 1 year renewal does so that might put the brakes on them anyway. ;)

I still haven't gotten the deal. Does anybody know if this only comes out after the free trial expires?

Called last week and got the $ 77 deal; I was paying $ 13/ month for the last year or so.

Nope... our free trial isn't up until the end of November, and that's when our $77 year kicks in.

As far as your getting the deal, I believe you did... ;) call the 800 # in this thread and tell them so.

Let me rephrase it.. I got the deal (so they said) but, I haven't gotten the bill yet..

Looks liked the $77/yr deal is still good. Just got off the phone with the CSR and everything is set, never asked for the ZWINBACK prom code at all and gave billing options of credit card or regular bill.

They did try to sell a portable XM radio and service for $6.99/mo but I declined. This is also the reason I chose not to go thru with credit card renewal.

Even though I'm pretty sure I was dealing with an outsourcee, I was able to get the $77 dollar rate today for my new Accord. He did ask for the promo code, and seemed happy with ZWINBACK. It does cost $2 more for an invoice instead of a credit card.

I received another postcard from XM pretty much pleading for me to subscribe. Its offering 3 different packages - 3 months for $4.99 / month (14.97), 6 months for $6.48 / month (38.88) or a 12 month subscription for $6.48 / month ($77.76).

I can't blame XM for pushing so hard to get lost subs back - they have been losing significant new subs to Sirius ever since January. Yes, I think XM has better music channels, I prefer listening to Howard Stern instead.

I can't wait for the 2 to just merge. But I bet a satellite tuner swap will happen before that. And that would make me a very happy camper.

I just called and had no luck with this code. I have an 06 EX-L and I have owned the vehicle for 5 months. So far I have had two bills that I paid. When I called to and asked for the 77 dollar promotional deal they said they needed more information than the ZWINBACK promo code. The operator told me that the winback promotions are for long time XM subscribers who have cancled their accounts. He said the additional information required for this promotion is sent the those long time subsribers in the mail and he could not give me the deal.

I'll be calling back in a little to try a different customer service rep.

Anyone else run into this issue

THanks

The only code I had to give them was my radio ID code so they could verify the account.

Keep trying until you are connected to someone who gives you the deal. You may have to try it mutliple times but you will eventually get it.

To those of you that haven't received the bill yet... I called yestersday and was advised that the bill will be sent once the free trial period expires. So, I will have to wait until Nov for my bill..

Ok, things went much better this time. I called and asked for the 77$ promotion. She asked if I got a card in the mail and I replied "yes". Then she asked for the radio ID on the card and I said it was for the integrated radio on my honda pilot and I don't have the card in front of me. She said no problem and gave me the deal. I did not even provide the promo code.

Thanks for the help.

I called today and said I had the card but I had left it at home and I was at work. He put me on hold (to get approval), came back and took my credit card and it was all good.

He also tried to sell me on another radio for $40 + $6/mo. Maybe if I knew someone else who was really hurting for some sat radio, but that is basically what I am paying per month with this $77 promotion.

called number in thread, and got the $77 deal just now on both my Pilots.

I have 2 Pilots that I bought the same day for my wife and I. 90 day trial ends Dec. 5th 2006 on both cars. New plan pricing goes into effect on Dec. 6th.

Payed up front with credit card.

I did the same with similar dates. I just received a bill for like 5 bucks for taxes. Who knows why they didn't charge me for these at the time I paid over the phone.

I got the $77/year deal last week, but went about it a different way...

My 90 day trial supposedly expired two weeks ago (but my radio still worked). XM tried to contact me at work several times last week. When they finally got through, they offered me the standard rate or if I signed up for a year, they'd offer it to me at some rate where it would work out that I'd only pay for 11 months but get 12. I told them I was still unsure if I wanted an XM subscription as I really didn't listen to it much during my trial.

I was then offered a 3 month introductory rate at like 4.99/month. I said I wasn't interested in that either. At this point, I told the saleswoman, "I'm aware of a $77/year promotion that some of my 'friends' have gotten from you recently." Her response was, "I can give you that since you asked for it, but I'm just not allowed to just offer it to you." So, in essence, the deal is still active, but you have to ask for it.

I also had them bill me as I didn't want it auto-renewed on my credit card.

My 3 month trial ran out November 8th. Because I was going to be traveling a lot over the Thanksgiving Holidays, I wanted to have the XM active in my 06 Pilot.

Called the XM number, told the lady what I wanted to do and I heard there was a $77 deal. She said no problem and walked me through the process. When it came time to give her my card she said "$12.95 a month".

I told her I wouldn't do it for that, but would do the $77 annual deal. She put me on hold for a minute and came back and said "done". It was active in 15 minutes.

I'm not sure I would have gone $12.95 per month, but for approximately half that I think it's a good deal. I'll have the comedy channels full bore for the next few days as I'm on the road.

Between this and the "what did you pay" section I saved a ton of money on my Pilot.

Have Thanksgiving everyone.

I just got the $77 a year promotion today. No problems in getting it. I just called the 1-800-321-7117 and told the CSR that I would like to take advantage of the $77/yr promotion. The CSR told me that it wouldn't be a problem and she asked for my Radio ID. She asked for my name and verified my address. She put me on hold for a moment as she said that she was going to activate my promotion. When she came back she asked me how I would like to pay for my subscription and I told her by credit card. She processed the transaction and explained that my promotion wouldn't start until the end of my 3-month trial period, which ends Dec. 27th.

Thanks to HondaPilot.org and this thread.

Has anyone re-upped their subscription for a second year? do they still honor the $77 or do you have to cancel and then be "convinced" to come back with the discounted rate?

I haven't had the pilot for a year yet, but I've used the 3 month for $4.99/month twice already. I honestly don't care to have xm except for the drive down to southern california, so it worked out for me. I'm sure if you cancel and resubscribe it should work.

Is it still possible to get the 1 year for $77 or 3 months for $4.99/month XM radio deal?

We just received a postcard with the $77 a year deal today. It shows the offer ends December 22, 2006.

Does it require you to have any specific information from the postcard itself OR can I simply call a # and reference it? Any information you can provide for me to take advantage of the offer by 12/22/06 would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Read back in the thread a ways and you'll get more complete answers, but briefly all you need to do is call.

Be sure to have your radio code handy--that is all they need. I did this a few months ago and that is what I did--no problemo.:D
