| Well, we don't have too much time for vacation this year so we decided to take a quickie vacation to Las Vegas and staying at Caesers Palace. I know it's real hot this time of year but what the heck. My question is what to do as a family? We don't really gamble very much and my wife and I don't want to get married again! So, if anyone would like to share any ideas, any and all suggestions would be appreciated. . We know the usual things to do, but please suggest them anyway. Thanks again for your suggestions and help. BTW, the kids are 15 &16. |

Star Trek Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel has added a Secrets Unveiled, and Klingon Encounter . If you are in Vegas during Aug 17 - 20, there is the Star Trek Convention (40th anniv).
There is the Las Vegas Mini Gran Prix, but I think you need to be at least 16 to drive. Or you can drive ($$$) or ride ($$) in a race car at Mario Andretti Champ Ride at the Las Vega Motor Speedway www.andrettiracing.com/schedule.asp . You can also buy your tickets at Sam's Club http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/se...type=0&x=11&y=6.
It might be cool enough to go hiking in the early morning at Red Rock Canyon about 20 miles outside Las Vegas. |

I assume you are driving, so you might consider a couple of the nearby sights. Hoover Dam is awesome and not that far away. Also, a trip down to Lake Havasu City to see the London Bridge might be an idea.
Enjoy!!!

| Great suggestions...We intend to fly but plan on renting a car for 2 days. I heard the Red Rock Casino is new and might give it a look. Gotta go to AAA and get some guide books as well. BTW Colorider, how's the new Camry doing? Is the mileage what they advertise it as? Let us know. Keep the suggestions coming. Thanks again. |

You can't miss the free fountain show at Bellagio. This is one of our favorite shows. Also, go on the rides at the top of the Stratosphere hotel. One of the scariest rides you'll go on due to the height and location of these rides. I haven't gone yet, but go to the top of the Eiffel Tower at Paris hotel, as I've heard you have some great views.
If you like shoppping, go to the outlets at Primadonna. It's only about 30 minutes away. While you're there go on the tallest roller coaster ride (Desperado) in the U.S. (or is that fastest?). I'd stay away from the outlet near the Strip.
Spend a day just relaxing in the swimming pool. If you can sneak into the pool at Mandalay Bay, I think they have the best pools. You may also be able to pay a fee and get in.
If you can afford it, take a plane ride or helicopter ride over Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon. I haven't tried it yet, but my cousin did and said it was amazing. However, he said it was a bit scary as the plane shook quite a bit. |

| Make sure you check out the new Wynn hotel and casino. It is really geared toward the rich. The buffet is one of the best but pretty expensive. Desserts are the best there. |

Anytime I go to Vegas I have at least one meal at Samba's at the Mirage. Its a fantastic all-you-can-eat Brazillian BBQ joint. Kind of pricey (around $30 a head) but its well worth it if your family are meat lovers. Waiters bring out several different kinds of freshly BBQ'd meat on skewers for you to try and you can repeatedly ask for more until you're stomach is full!

| if you're into meat, check out the steak house at circus circus (yes surprisingly!). people I know who wouldn't consider even going into circus circus (for gambling or other entertainment) love that place. |

If you or your kids have never seen exotic sports cars up close such as Wynn's own own $1.4 million Enzo Ferrari, check out the Ferrari store/museum at the hotel. They only allow a certain amount of people in at one time so be prepared to wait in line for a few minutes. |

also, since you're staying at caesar's palace, try to get a room in the new tower facing the bellagio fountains. we stayed there last year and we really enjoyed our room view. I've attached a picture of our view.
I agree with dontnomuch007 that mandalay bay has a good pool area. the wave pool and the lazy river are nice. the caesar's palace pool looks nice too...just no wave pool. what I thought was funny about the caesar's pool area is that their "european style" pool was right next to the regular pools, and there wasn't much seperating them. :D |

Can't go to vegas without:
Eating at FatBurger (other side of the strip from Ceasars, in the neighborhood, I believe to the right of ceasers on the strip across the street).
Blue Man Group is AWESOME (they were in the Luxor when we saw them)
Already mentioned, but both Star Trek experiences is WELL worth it!
Take advantage of the TRAM, easy way to get down to the star trek experience from Ceasers (cross the street from Ceasars)
Definately go see the Venetian, way cool inside. Wait for the rain every 15 minutes, that is neat.
Last but NOT LEAST, you HAVE to take a bus or cab to the old strip at night. The light show is simply the best. The show runs every 1/2 hour and is different every time. Gambling is real cheap (nickel roulette!). I've been to vegas several times and that strip is the most memorable, way cool. |

| Hmmmm. I knew there was lots to do. Now all I have to do is start planning where and when. I like buffets but the kids and wife aren't big eaters. Actually, there are a few Brazillian type buffets here in SF and in San Bruno. Haven't tried them yet but was planning to later this summer. I am still welcoming more suggestions. Thanks. |

the outlet store if you are into shopping.
they have some very nice shops in there. D&G, A/X, etc. |

| If you are into shows, I think the best shows are the Cirque Du Soleil shows. I think the one at Treasure Island, Mystere, is the cheapest. Definitely worth the price of admission. |

Art,
When are you gonna be in Vegas?
We are going to the Jetts tournament in LA the weekend of 29th/30th and then headed to Vegas, ourselves. Staying at the Monte Carlo, so not too far away from your hotel.
Back in December, we flew to Vegas and stayed at the Bellagio. Very nice. The Japanese restaurant in the hotel was EXCELLENT with tables that looked out over the water (so you could watch the watershow during dinner). We attended the Manilow show at the Hilton. That was very good. Did Star Trek Experience a few years ago and would recommend that, as well.
I think Lance Burton is still at the Monte Carlo. We saw his magic show a few years ago and that was enjoyable.
Outlet shopping ... there is a new center on the north end of the strip, which I liked better than the trip to Primm.
Anyway, have a great vacation. |

| We'll be in LV August 13-18. I hope the gyms are air conditioned. When they're not, the kids get exhausted very quick. Keep them hydrated. Good luck to the team and have fun. That's the main objective. I've heard if you play the tournament in Oahu, they play the games at night. So, the kids swim and play during the day. Then, in the late afternoon early evening, they play their games. |

| Yup, the gyms do have good AC (assume you are referring to the Hollywood Dodger's tournament). Have a good time and best of luck in the tournament. |

Oops, I didn't read the "family" part.
My parents seemed to really like going to the Hoover Dam and taking a chopper ride. |

Art,
We got back from Vegas last night (9 hour drive). While there, we purchased discounted tickets (50%) for V @ The Aladdin. V is a variety show with a comic / magician MC and various variety ("V") acts that included a magician, a juggler, a singer (Trenyce from American Idol), dancing and a comic.
It was an excellent show. The kids in our group, ranging in age from 11 to 20, all enjoyed the show, as did the parents. I think we got the tickets from Tickets4less, which has four locations on the strip. The Aladdin is very close to your hotel. I would heartily recommend the show. Our tickets, with service charges, ended up costing $34 each with each ticket including a free beverage.
Aladdin also has an excellent buffet (Spice Market). Raw oysters, Alaskan King Crab, clams in an tomato sauce, lemon basil shrimp. |

| Thanks David. We're leaving on the 14th and will definitely check it out. It sounds very fun and entertaining. I am starting to make up our itinerary this week and the show will be on our list of things to do. The clip was pretty cool. I think I saw the guy on Letterman one night and I enjoyed his performance. |
