| I am trying to use a fuel injector cleaner. I have connected it to the fuel line but cannot figure out how to disable the fuel pump. I removed fuse number 1 under the driver’s side but the pilot would not start. Does anyone know how to just disable the fuel pump and not the ignition system? This is for a 2003 exl pilot.. Any help would be appreciated |

The engine will not start unless there is sufficient fuel pressure in the fuel lines. The fuel pressure regulator pressurizes the fuel lines to between 57-62 psi. The dealer can bypass this feature by using a function of the HDS, thereby allowing the engine continue to run only at idle with the fuel pump off, until fuel starvation occurs. The fuel pump relay is located behind the lower dash cover, near the steering wheel shaft. Be careful - the PCM relay is also located near there. If you do depressurize the system and flush it, remember to accomplish the idle learn procedure See link below. Things just aren't easy anymore, are they?
BTW-
A lot of folks contend that you do not ever need to flush/clean the injector system in normal ops. In fact, you may be introducing contaminants into the system by using the aftermaket fuel injector flush/cleaner systems. Note also, Honda does not specify any periodic maintenance on the fuel injection system.
Lots of folks swear by Techron for fuel system in tank cleaning.
Idle learn procedure found here. (see page 3.) |
