Question--Economy mode on '06 4wd? - Click HERE for Original Thread
OurHonda
Can you get the system that shuts off half of the cylinders when you are cruising on the 4wd EXL or does it only come in a 2wd model? Thanks.
jay
Only 2WD. EDIT: "But you don't want to get it until Honda fixes the humming sound from the Active Noise Cancellation system that's in the 2WD with Variable Cylinder Management." has been deleted upon further review.

Jay - you're incorrect in stating that the humming sound affects all 2wd pilots - my exl-Nav does not exhibit this issue. By stating that this is a widespread issue would be similar to saying that "one should wait to purchase a Pilot until Honda fixes the 70+ MPH vibration issue".

additionally, 2wd is available on all models - from the base LX to the EX-L models.

EDIT: "Okay, here's a fact based way of stating the same thing. VCM is only on the 2WD. Honda is working on an updated ANC module for vehicles equipped with VCM. Given those facts, my opinion is I'd buy the 4WD or wait until the updated module is released." has been deleted upon further review.

I don't think that this is a "fact" is it? I think it is conjecture based on comments from techs that have been working with problem systems.

I would suspect that all it would need is a firmware update to the software if and when their pocket protector brainiacs figure something out.

I'm just going by what jpecore posted in the humming thread. And a rose is a rose, a software, firmware or hardware update is an update, no?

So on cross-examination, I'll just leave it at this for the answer to the OP's question. "Only 2WD."

This is true (but if you read further, you'll see I'm not trying to be obstinate or split hairs).

The reason I pointed out a difference is that generally the only way Honda will replace hardware for free is a recall, and they usually are reluctant to recall something that is not safety related or NHTSA mandated.

IF, however, it was a firmware update, they might do it as a TSB and would update this on request and possibly for free since it only involves labor and not parts.

We agree on this!:D

I'm sorry if I hijacked the main thrust of the thread with a tangential subject.;)
