Sorry in advance for the length of this post..
I was gone away all weekend and came home to find I left my sunroof open and some wicked storms rolled through over the weekend.
My Center console was completely filled to the brim with water. I'm not worried about the carpeting and whatnot since it's only water and the catch-all mats caught most of it. (or should I?)
But the leather, especially the arm rest from the water sitting on it all weekend has started to grow little pimples and is extremely rough to the touch. It hurts to even put your arm on it. Same is happening with the drivers seat. I had a towel on the seat and by butt got soaked even with the towel driving to work this morning. I didn't notice it until this morning and barely had time to clean everything up since I had to be at work 15 mins after I noticed it.
I have interior protection through the dealer that covers Leather from tears punctures, stains, etc. but it says it doesn't cover "natural causes"
HELP! |

| First thing I would do is let the truck run with the A/C on for a WHILE (an hour or more). The A/C will assist in removing the moisture. Then I would use a leather conditioner the give the leather it's natural oils back. I am sure that someone here can recommend a leather conditioner. Good luck. |

| But only the seating surfaces - the part your backside touches, is leather. The rest of the seat, and all of the armrest, are vinyl. |

REALLY? I would never have thought that. I conditioned everything with leather conditioner like 3 weeks ago. I had no idea that only that backs are leather  .
So since the seating and armrest are vinyl, could that explain why they are growing little pimples? and how can I fix them?
Why the heck do they call it "all leather interior" :bsflag: |

Actually, the "seating surfaces" are leather. It's the sides of the seats (non-wear surface) that's vinyl. So, where your butt sits and where your back rests are both leather. If you feel the two, you can feel the difference (OK maybe one that's not damaged with water).
Good luck with your clean up!

I'm not sure that you can really "fix" that type of thing. I hate to be so negative, but if the material deformed like that, I'd say you're looking at replacement rather than repair. If you need a recommendation for an upholstery shop, there's a really good one down on Cameron St.
I used them when I burnt a cigarette hole in my (then) brand new '02 Accord. (No, I don't smoke any more) Their work was flawless, you couldn't tell the seat from new. If you're interested, I'll see if I can dig up my receipt for their name. I'm sure I have it around somewhere. |

Came out of work today, and the leather magically appeared signifigantly better looking. The little pimples were subsiding, and the leather felt smoother. However, the seats and carpet are still compeltely soaked. I'm afraid at this point the seat heaters are damaged, but not going to try them until it drys out.
I'm going to leave it at a family members house garaged for the rest of the week and put a few box fans in the interior to attempt to dry it out. I'll then try to condition the leather once i think it's dry.
It's starting to smell musty..Might have to Febreeze the Sh*t out of it to kill it.
I must say water has it's ways of getting around. The center console arm rest was closed tight. When I opened it, there was about an inch of water in it, and I lift up the flap of the powerport and there's water in there.
By the way cwa..thanks for the tip.. I'm going to wait it out over the weekend and see how things turn up. I'll let you know if I need the address. |

I second that, are there any aftermarket sensor available? Probably a lot of splicing involved. |

I wish I had see this thread sooner. Your best bet for drying the carpets and such faster would have been to use a wet/dry shop vac to pull the water out of the carpets. Even better would be to pull the carpet loose and suck the water out of the foot wells.
Even after the top of the carpet feels dry, the padding underneath is going to be wet.
If you have sunny days now, park it outside as much as possible with the windows open a bit. |

Park a dehumidifier in the car with all the windows etc close and run it for a few days.
Then give the car to a detailer to use biocide on the carpets and save the leather. |

After 48 hours of having my pilot in a wind tunnel (3 box fans and a few desk fans) Everything has completely dried out, and there seems to be no existance of any mold or mildew. The only smell there is is the smell of garage pumped into it. But that should go away in due time. I also reconditioned the leather, and 303 Aerospaced the plastic areas effected, and all has returned to normal. The leather is back to it's original form and texture except a small area on the arm rest where I picked at the little pimples I mentioned earlier. It appears I broke the leather when I did so. But it's not noticeable and you can only feel it if you run your finger over it.
So there you go. If you leave your Sunroof open during a Massive rainfall, just dry it out for 48 hours (or more) and restore the leather and plastic and your all set. :)
I thought for sure I'd be making an Insurance claim out of sheer stupidity. :bonk:
Thanks for all the help. |

Glad it worked out for you, years ago I had a co-worker that did this about once a month. |
