2007 CRV

Anyone get a chance to read the specs on the new CRV? Some nice features but I'm most surprised that the engine is 166 horsepower while the RAV is 269 horsepower. I would have thought Honda would try to match the horsepower in their best competitor.

I like that the spare is no longer mounted on the back.

I'm guessing that the Rav's gas mileage isn't anywhere close the the CRV's, however.

And you'd be guessing wrong, believe it or not. The EPA estimate for a 4WD auto V6 RAV-4 is 21/28. The 4WD auto CR-V is 22/27, but the 5-speed drops to 21/26. Hey, now you can add to your store of useless knowledge. ;)

apples to apples. the FOUR CYLINDER rav4 has 166 hp also. the CRV looks to be ~$2000 cheaper than a comparably equipped rav4. the 07 CRV EX-L Navi is going to be about $28k, which is the MSRP for the 4cyl Rav4 4x4 Limited with leather package (no Navi).

plus the CRV has a 5 speed automatic and arguably the best 4 banger on the market (the honda K-series), not to mention what seems like better interior materials according to stuff i've read so far (the 06 Rav4 i sat in at the dealer just felt cheap).

yes, the rav4 has a V6 option. no, the CRV doesnt. i dont see it as a big deal. toyota's strategy doesnt make sense. the V6 rav4 is obviously going to cannibalize the highlander which is already languishing (how many new highlanders have you seen vs Pilots?). not to mention, the V6 rav4 has only 3 less HP than its rx350 cousin. what's that going to do for the RX's prestige? its cute ute cousin has the exact same engine! honda doesnt want to lose any pilot sales due to a V6 CRV. how many of you would have bought a CRV if it had a V6 and leather?

I would bet the Highlander redesign will be bigger to compete with the Pilot just as the RAV4 size was increased to compete - thus no cannabilization. I don't think anyone is cross-shopping the RX with the RAV4. Having a larger engine option just increases the market for the RAV4. I believe Lexus is also working on a RAV4 V6 variant. How many people are buying the RDX at 32K+ and it has the power of a V6 and is much more expensive? A Highlander limited V6 was $36K+ when we test drove it so a $28K V6 RAV4 with leather has a market due to price. I would expect a Loaded V6 CRV would have the same market dynamics - people would buy it because it was $6-8K cheaper than a fully loaded Pilot. Especially if they can get the same mpg at the increased power level. We owned a 99 CRV and we had to shut off the A/C to get onto the hwy and not get killed.

Asking this forum whether we would have purchased a CRV instead of the Pilot is not like asking the CRV market whether they would buy the V6 version. We were looking for a larger more expensive vehicle. If I were going to buy a RAV4 though, it would be the V6 version. A lot of the competition now has a V6 option.

Although Honda would probably screw it up and go with the turbo 4 that is giving horrible mpg in the RDX vs the RAV V6.

Accord V6 vs I4 and Camry V6 vs I4, I believe I read it before that I4 actually sold about 70% and V6 is only 30%.

It's too bad that we don't see more power on CRV (at least 200HP K24 from TSX), but who knows if the decision of keeping V6 out of CRV is right or wrong. If ppl wants CRV with V6, just buy Pilot I guess. :) Pilot was selling pretty well compare to CRV in North American anyway. ;)
