True, true, but it still looks like early 80's technology. In fact, my Football II game from the early Eighties even had soft touch keys, where this one has hard keys. ;) |

| Reading error codes may be useful, but would you really want to clear a check engine light? I'm sure it would "avoid those costly trips to the mechanic" but having that light on should mean there is something wrong that needs immediate attention by a certified mechanic (which most of us are not). Seems like the making of a car-tastrophe. |

| OK guys, there were some questions about when the SG would be sent and when you would be charged, I got some info from John at SoCal Motorsports. He says he is placing the order on January 15, and will ship them the day he receives them. The group buy is not over until January 12, and he needs to wait until he knows exactly how many to order. This isn't an item he has ever sold before, so he is just ordering exactly how many units are sold. Credit cards won't be charged until January 15 either. Hope that answers most of the questions. |

I have had a SGII mounted on my Wife's Pilot for about 4-5 months and I am very satisfied with it. I mounted Hers on the top of the steering column [sticky side velcro supplied with it]. I especially like the "Miles-left-to-empty".
I paid $175, I think, but it was still worth it.

OK, more updated info:
Hello Allen,
If/When we hit the 100 mark I am going to give all GB participants a $10 credit on their next (non eBay) purchase. The price break was only $2 and change if we went over the 100 mark.
Not sure of the total yet, but we'll have a better idea tomorrow.
Thank you in advance,

New information from John:
Hello,
I have said this before and I’ll say it again, thank you very much for all of your support in our most recent Group Buy. The response to the ScanGauge II purchase has been amazing.
To ensure that we hit the 100 mark we have extended the GB until this Sunday (1/14/07) at 11:59:59 pm pst. Hitting the 100 mark also gets each GB participant with a $10 credit on their next (non eBay) purchase from SoCal Motorsports. Those who ordered more than 1 ScanGauge II will receive a $10 credit for each unit purchased during the GB. Please direct all questions to me at john@socalmotorsports.com. This credit can only be redeemed on orders from www.socalmotorsports.com or call-in orders to SoCal Motorsports. Moreover, the order you plan to redeem your $10 credit on must be made by the same person participating in this group buy.
Several customers have asked about the BlendMount mounting solution for the ScanGauge II. A GB for this mount will start this weekend and run through next weekend (ONLY 1 WEEK). Look for pricing tomorrow.
GB Update:
Many CC’s were charged today and the rest will be charged tomorrow. Provided that you gave us a valid email address you should expect your updated invoice with accurate pricing sometime this weekend. If you do not receive an updated invoice (PDF format) please email us early next week and we’ll send one out ASAP.
Approximate ship date from is ScanGauge mid next week. Our hope is that each customer will have their ScanGauge by 1/24 (S/H timeframe is for Cont. USA customers only – all other customers will likely get theirs 1-4 business days after that).
Thank you again and we hope you have a great weekend.

New info from John at SoCal Motorsports:
Hello All,
Well, this concludes our most recent, and most successful Group Buy. We sold “163” total ScanGauges. Thank you to all that participated. Although the GB started on ClubTitan.org we had responses from several online forums.
There has been some confusion regarding the 2nd (accurate) invoice. If you have not received an invoice or an online payment request please contact me (email or phone) ASAP so as to secure your ScanGauge at the GB price. We had some difficulties with our online CC program over the weekend. We thought each customer received an accurate invoice, however by the barrage of phone calls we received Tuesday-Today we soon found out that wasn’t the case. We resent the invoices to those who haven’t received them.
Since we surpassed the 100 mark, each GB participant is entitled to a $10 credit on their next order from SoCal Motorsports. This offer is only good on purchases made over the phone or orders submitted on www.socalmotorsports.com. eBay purchases are not included in this offer. Call/email for complete details.
The order has been submitted to ScanGauge. I will have more information as far as shipping times and tracking information tomorrow.
ATTN: THOSE INTERESTED IN THE BLENDMOUNT GROUP BUY.
I will be posting the newest info (pricing, s/h, availability, and applications) tomorrow. FYI: You can use the $10 credit to purchase the Blendmount.
Thank you again for choosing SoCal Motorsports and we hope that you enjoy your new toy, once it arrives.
John

Looking at the blendmount it seems as if it is a universal bracket to mount the scangauge over the rear view mirror. As long as the rear view bracket is within the limits of the blendmount bracket clamp it should work.
Interesting design but still looks pricey.
-Mike. |

| I wonder if the cable that is included with the scangauge will be long enough to reach the bracket mounted on the mirror stem. Does anyone know? We may need an extension cable with a coupler fitting. |

I am too...
According to John at Socal -- Ive called him a couple of times -- we were all part of an even bigger group buy and there was tremendous response. They were finishing up paper work late last week to make sure that all orders were included in the order to ScanGauge so shipping was excepted to commence this week. Keep in mind that this will most likely be ground shipping since shipping was included in the final price of $130.00.
I've tried not to think about it, because I am just as impatient, until I saw your post. Now I am feeling l should call again. Thanks a alot! LOL:D |

Got mine in the mail today. Hooked up up this evening and tried it out.
Seems to work fine and all of the functions are there, but it will take a little while to get used to the menus (so many selections). Can't wait to take use of the trip time and distance to empty functions.
Right now I have the cable passing through the trim next to the steering wheel and the scanguage is sitting in front of the tachometer.
FYI:
It would mount perfectly in the sunglasses holder - the foam up there grabs it just right. Just need to figure out how to route the cable up.
Also, the cable is terminated with a cat 5 connector. An off the shelf patch cable (male-female) should work fine as an extension. |

Anyone tried this to see if an ordinary cat 5 extension will work because as previously mentioned, it won’t reach the rearview mirror without one unless you run it up the front windshield. Who wants that though??
The scangauge is pretty neat though. The trip computer functions are nice to have although I haven’t filled up since to calibrate fuel tank readings. |

It works. I bought a coupler from Radio Shack and hooked it up to a spare Cat5 cable I had at home. Ran it up the driver side and up through the headliner (careful not to break a clip on the side-curtain panel when running it up through there. I did when I pulled on it too much) and back down beside the rearview wire. I currently have the ScanGauge on top of the mirror waiting to see if there's a blendmount solution/GB. THe rigidity of the Cat5 cable is holding it against the seam on the housing of the mirror -- and holding it well for that matter.
Sorry, no pics yet. I took everything from the HU all the way to the sunglasses holder apart in order to run the wire and also put the Z1 mike in the factory location (which fits perfectly). Had to try to put everything together before it got too dark since I don't have great lighting in my garage.
I need to hardwire my V1 at somepoint so I will try to do some step-by-step pics of the ScanGauge install when do that. |

That's surprising, considering the mounting kit has adjustable pin locations and different length stand-off pins. It seems that it would fit most rear view mirror mounts.
By the way, the mounting kit includes a "7-foot extension cable and inline coupler" which look remarkably like cat 5e hardware. I'm sure the cables are standard cat 5e type connectors - easy way to keep their costs down. |

I was thinking the same thing. They have 2 sizes to fit around the post and have a "nickel test" to figure out which will fit also. I will use their test but if the smaller size is too small I thought that I would go with the larger ring size and just insert a rubber gasket if it's too big.
To be continued... |
|

| Medic721 |
| I decided to mount mine in front of the steering column. |

|
| Medic721 |
| I routed the cable through the space in the steering column and to the OBD2 connector. |

OK, I borrowed the concept but I wasn't about to pay for the BlendMount as it seemed to pricey to me.
I cut the mounting tabs off a goose-necked suction cup mount that I had lying around the garage. I attached the scan gauge to the now flat mounting surface with velco. I was able to bend the goose neck in such a way that the large suction cup is attached to the windshield behind the rear view mirror soa s to not block my vision.
I tucked a cat5 cable under the front edge of the headliner and ran it down inside the pillar trim. I used an in-line RJ-45 connector to connect the end of this cable to the one provided with the scan gauge.
Tied up the excess wire under the dash and all done. Total cost - $10 for the RJ-45 connector. |
|
|
| newblu |
| Here's what it looks like from the rear seat. You can see that the suction cup is hidden behind the mirror. |
|
|
| GreenMachine |
I'm kind of bummed the blendmount won't work the way they designed it now. I don't know where I want to mount this thing yet, but over the rearview mirror still looks to be the ideal spot. I like seeing the outside temp, mileage, and maintenance minder too much to put it on top of the steering column. Putting down by the radio means taking my eyes off the road for too long.
I guess I'll have to figure something out like newblu. |
|
|
| tim.s |
I did something similar to Medic721, but I set the gauge further back and to the left so that I can still see the odometer. The temp gauge is still visible if I tilt my head to the right.
I'm thinking about mounting it above the mirror like newblu, but I have my mirror positioned as close to the roof liner as it will go so that I don't compromise my vision at intersections. If I can lower the mirror without blocking my view, I'll probably move it here...eventually. |
|

| GreenMachine |
Well after a couple weeks with the ScanGauge II in the Pilot, I looked over at it yesterday to notice the color of the display wasn't uniform. I had selected white, but as you progressed from the left to the right, the color went from white gradually over to a light blue. I tried all the different colors and they all exhibited a different color from one side to the next, green to darker green, red to darker red.. I called up tech support and they said it sounded like one of the LED's failed. He said he had seen a handful like this. He real nice and asked that I go ahead and send it to them to they can repair/replace the unit. I just hope it doesn't happen again outside the one year warranty because so far I really like it.
Kinda bummed since LED's are supposed to last for so long. :( |
